Cats are pets they don't know about personal space they just want your love
if you want personal space and privacy big mistake my 2 cats are with me all the time they are indoor cats and sleep on the bed they even follow me to the toilet
I wouldn't and don't expect anything less

Cats (like most pets) tThink that they own you, because you feed them, house them, cater to their needs, clean up after their waste material, aka SH*T. If a superioir species from space were to look down and determine who owned who, the scales would be tipped in the domesticated animal's favor.
Cats in particular do NOT respect personal space. You are just a source of sustenance and another place to mark their territory.

Do a search under "cat fancier" --- should get a number of hits with credible resources.
From personal experience, I know that they do think (outthink a lot of humans), they have detailed memory --- pretty much do not respect human's space ---- they see it as their own and they might choose to share it with us.
