You need to take your cat to the vet if he has a broken tail. The veterinarian will probably amputate the tail depending on the severity of the break. If your cat cannot move his tail and has recently had it injured (caught in closed door, run over by tire, etc) it probably is broken.
Good luck!

Take your cat to the vet so he can examinate its tail. Some people like to have the tail "docked", which is making it shorter. It may be bent if left unchecked, but the vet is the best to answer your question. If you have it docked it will heal quickly, same as a dogs tail. If the tail is shortened some folk lore is that it can change the cat's balance???? The vet can rule on infection. You can take its temperature.

It depends on how bad the break is. The answer could range from letting it heal on its own and pain medication, to amputation.
