If there are no other complications, your boyfriend will most likely live because the procedure will relieve the pressure on his brain caused by the hemorrhage. Whether he will have a meaningful life from this point on is another issue altogether. I don't know what caused the bleed, how severe/extensive it is or how much time passed before medical care was given but be prepared for the possiblity of brain damage. It could be minor or severe largely based on the information I don't have.
If you want to talk more about it, e-mail me at nurselmh@sbcglobal.net. I have a lot of young patients -- head trauma, gunshot wounds to the head, attempted suicides -- with varying degrees of damage. Write me & we'll talk.

The doctors are drilling a hole into his skull to let the blood out, because it is putting pressure on his brain, which can do damage. Was this a head injury, or a ruptured aneurysm? Either way, how he does depends on how fast he got treatment and how much bleeding there was, and how long his brain went without oxygen. If they're doing burr holes (that's what they're called) it's probably a good sign, because it means there's signs that his brain is still working to some degree. If he were brain dead, they wouldn't do burr holes. So, I believe he will live. Think positively.

depends on what is wrong. Drilling the hole will relieve the pressure on the brain. Most often happens after a blow to the head or a hemorrhagic stroke. If there hasn't already been irreversible damage then he has a good chance but no one on the computer can tell you if he will live or not.

Oh man, im very sorry, thats a scary situation. Im sure he'll live since all there doing is drilling a hole in the skull to drain the blood. But one slip then it can turn fatal. But why does he have bleeding in his brain? Well i hope all goes well.

No one can answer that question but,the probability is yes,he will.It is an operation to relieve pressure on the brain and operations like this are frequently performed without the need for general anesthetics just a local one.Try not to worry too much.

I have known people who have had brain surgerys, one had several brain surgerys. The first one had terrable bleeding in his head, something do with malformed blood veins. He was in pretty bad shape when he got to the hospital. They are both alive and well with a full and normal lives ahead of them.... The medical field has come a long way. Have faith, be strong.

obviously there is no way anyone over the internet can give you this answer-you would need to know all the facts surrounding his condition. It sounds serious.as a nurde i have seen many patients have shunts put in their heads to release the pressure caused by bleeding-swelling ect....and they do just fine. Maybe you could talk to his parents and have them tell you more about his condition-if they are not in good spirits because of this-tyr your school nurse...good luck

The hole they drill won't kill him. But whatever caused the bleeding might.

I certainly hope so. So does he. So does the doctor. Speak to the MD for a better explanation of the procedure.
