For one thing, try something newer, or a model that has better parts availability. That will save you significant frustration when he has bent body panels etc. Depending on age / maturity of your son, you may be complicating his learning curve, and putting too much power in his hands that will set him up for failure. To many good late 80's to early 90's camaros and firebirds with v-6 motors, or even mild v-8 motors for next to nothing. $6500 is a lot of money...

If your son is under 30 years old, I would pass- this AMC sounds fast and will be nothing but trouble i.e. tickets accidents or worse.

Well, if your son appreciates that kind of style then yes. But you might want something more practical/reliable.

How old is your son? If this is what he wants still consider safety, reliability, insurance cost etc

how old is your son?
the amount isn't much if your son really appreciates it.

but if you think your son is to small for it or he won't really appreciate it you can make any other choice.
