My boyfriend got a flu shot at work 2 weeks ago, and ever since then hes been complaining about a pain in the spot where they put the needle in. He said the guy didn't "put the needle in slowly like they usually do", but rather "smacked the needle into his arm".

He said his whole muscle is REALLY sore, I think its funny.... its kind of a joke we have.... I call him a baby because everytime i smack his arm he goes "OW my flu shot hurts!!".

its not a big deal but he swears theres really a pain, and i thought I;d be a good girlfriend and look into it.... any ideas?

Sounds like he's just a big baby. Tell him to grow up.

Well the flu vax is given intramuscularly and no needle should be inserted too slowly -- that's painful. Since I wasn't there to see it, I can only speculate. Perhaps it wasn't given in the largest part of the deltoid, perhaps it was a little too low and nicked a nerve or hit the humerus. I don't know how large your boyfriend's arm is. In any case, two weeks is a long time. He should give it another week, take acetaminophen/ibuprofen for the pain, use a moist heat 15 min. on/15 min. off for 2 hrs. at a time and if the pain hasn't diminished or gone, he ought to ask his doctor about it.

Maybe the injection did some sort of tissue damage. He should try putting heat on it, even just run the shower over it or use a thermocare heat wrap. Has he tried Tylenol, aspirin or ibuprofen? That should help, too. If it doesn't go away he should check with the doctor or clinic where he got the shot.

My arm was alittle sore but only last a couple days. Maybe he is having an allergic reaction. Try calling the dr and asking if its possible to have an allergy at the needle site.

If it hurts when you hit it be a nice gf and stop hitting his arm. When it stops hurting then you can be playful and slap his arm again. I was always a smacker so I know you don't mean your beating him good luck

He just may be sensitive to the vaccine. Does the area look discolored? You could always ask a pharmacist about it if you don't want to see the doctor about it. They are very knowledgeable about medicne.

It is not at all abnormal. It should heal up in a little while. It sounds like the one administering the medication did not do so well. If something was really wrong, you would know by now.

They may have hit a nerve.
Use some warm compresses to heal it.
