Every human community has always had some type of class system. In the USA however the class in which you are born is not necessarily the one in which you remain your entire life. I am not saying that it is really easy to climb the social echelons but it is more doable here than it is elsewhere.

Yes, but at least it is not enshrined in your constitution.
We British have a class system designed and maintained to preserve the establishment. Most Americans beleive our Royal family is an irrlevance, but it is the monarch that passes each bill into law and signs treaties and declares war and dissolves parliament and calls upon an individual of their choosing to form a government..... the list is long..... who is head of the state religion, the head of the judiciary and commander in chief of our forces.
With this much influence we have a crony-class just beneath the royals with a strangle-hold on British life. Try getting into a certain university or regiment or school if you're not already in the right class - it is now less likely that a British subject (yes were are subjects not citizens) can move up the social order than at anytime since WWII.
American class is just socio-economic - which is probably how it should be.
The UK class system is political. Please help us! I want to vote for my head of state. I want my son to be eligible for high office. These things cannot be and yet we just suffer these wrongs.

Yes in a way it is. Americans have their freedom to choose their own path. Although, I will have to say political structure does have some influence in how the class system does effect american society. Its just something I have learned by observance. Usually when the economically privilaged have more money, they make regular people poorer. Young people have a harder time finding good jobs and getting grants for education. Class system is more or less based on economics. So latley for the past 8 years, theres nothing better than kicking people when their down. Theres also nothing like taking away their dreams too.

Since it's the top 5% or less that make all the rules. I'd have to say we definitely have a class system. When was the last time your heard politicians thinking of the middle class first?

Go downtown at lunch. Check out all the people eating small lunches in over-priced restaurants. Now go to walmart in the evening, when blue-collar workers really have time to flood the store.
Of course there is a class system. Fortunately, with a lot of fight and a lot of luck, a person can change their class position.

There is somwhat of a class system, But it is not government. Its more of a social thing. Theres the lower class, por people, Middle class normal people and the upper class the rich people. the government notices this, but doesnot enforce it. the class you are born into isnt nessacarly the one you will allways be in and the government makes its best efforts to make everybody as well off as possible.

Yes-- and if you are in school, your age bracket is affected the most by the actions of the generations before you-- who have left you with the legacy of being pampered, spoiled and focused on riches. Who will chop down trees to heat their homes? Who will grow a garden and trees and dry meat in order to eat during the winter. The entire country is driven by commerce that urges people to acquire more and more. The proud rural people aren't even counted anymore but it is they who made America great.

yes, i believe you will find more interesting material if you look at not the location of people, but the people themselves, Chinese, Japanese, African American, Native American, Mexican, Spanish, etc... I found it extremely interesting, and extremely varied from group to group! Class has been and will continue to influence human behavior as long as we are cursed with EGO!!!
