which one better & useful in New Zealand?

Typically I would say that the YHA card is better (more useful) but in Australia and New Zealand you might get more bang for your buck with the VIP card (since VIP is an Australian company) You also might consider not getting a card at all. Most hostels (as in the vast majority) do not use or need these "member" cards. Check out Twizi.com New Zealand, there are hundreds of hostels there.

I spent several years backpacking and living around the world. I believe I purchased a YHA card once and never had a use for it. I do recall using the VIP card. Check if you are eligible to get an ISIC card as well, very useful.
