It is impossible to either prevent or force someone to commit suicide. Many, many people have lived under intense guilt for years because they refused to believe this. Even those of us trained to deal with suicidal people cannot always be successful. Of course we should try - talking with them, getting more qualified help, dialing 911. And there are times we don't see it coming or just can't focus at the moment. I lost one on a hot-line once where I just couldn't think fast enough to keep him on the line. It was not my fault, but even now, I still think about what I could have done differently.

There are also times when I need to admit I don't have the answers. Have you ever been asked by someone you love to help them die? And appreciate why they are asking? My best friend asked me while she was dying & in great pain from leukemia. I thank God I never had to make that decision; she made the decision to live it out to the end. That situation sure made me think about the topic, a lot.

I do not believe it is a question of morality or ethics, right or wrong. There are worse things than dying. My Mother signed a living will giving her the choice of either dying or receiving life saving measures. She chose to die. It was her decision, and like it or not, she chose to die knowing she could probably live with treatment. I made the right decision in leaving that decision to her. Is that morally wrong?

yes it is. especially morally. you do not have to go personally to stop the suicide, but you should call 911 and report it.
depending on the country you are in, if you knowingly not report it, you may even be considered helping the suicide, then you are an accomplice.
also, think about it well, would you want to carry that memory all your life time? if you at least tried to stop and get help, then you as yourself will also learn the importance of life.

Everyone has a time which they die. Its like everyones life is pre recorded and things happen for a reason. Now sometimes you can prevent things from happening and sometimes you cant. You can help that person by calming them down and helping them with a problem they are having leading to suicide or if you fell that they have to leave this Earth its your descision. What ever you do is all apart of the sequence. Its wrong you have to help that person get through with his or her problem. Or if you think that it is all apart of the sequence and that they have to die you let them kill their selves, but it is wrong to let them kill themselves. I guess I can say its both. Hope this helps you

I think so yes.. however more than likely a person who threatens suicide wont actually do it..its the silent ones you've gotta look out for..
this person is crying out for help.. ther are other ways to fix things than just vanishing off the earth all togetha.
Im sure once you've helped them get out of this depression they will be indebted to you for life and will profusely thank you once theyr happy and content again.

It is morally wrong not to TRY to prevent someone from hurting themselves.

Yes, it's morally wrong. It's like if you see your son or brother wants to take drugs just to try it,don't you think it would be morally wrong to let him do it?

wow i agree with what "terry" said..everything does happen for a reason. but, i think you really should calm them down. most people who want to commit suicide will tell you because there's a part of them that doesn't want to die. i've had experienced with this. a good friend of mine was suicidal, and she came to me one day to say "goodbye" to me. i talked her out of it, completely. my other friend and i got her into the hospital, under suicide watch. but all we did was talk to her. told her about what she wanted to do was wrong, and she completely believed in everything we had to say. so all i'm saying is, talk to this person...hope everything works out...

It all depends on your personal morals and ethics, obviously though, it is very morally wrong from the view of society and probably 95% of the world's population

Why would you let someone commit suicide? that makes you just as stupid (not you personally) just in general.

i think people have different definitions and influences in terms of suicide and moral values (culture, religion). but it definitely IS WRONG to stand by and watch them jeopardize their life!
