...tell me I've misinterpreted Matthew 19:12? The stupidity here never ceases to amaze me.

Yes, Origen WAS a eunich. He followed the teachings of Jesus.

Whoa, you come here expecting people to know who Origen was? I guarantee you, I'm the only one here with an education in patristics.

Well, Origen is a famous misinterpreter of this verse. He took it too literally. He was excommunicated and only after he repented he was received back into Church.

The reasons why castration in the literal sense is wrong:
1) It is a mutilation of the body.
2) It does not make the sexual passion go away.

There are two valid options for Christians:
1) For those who cannot fight against the sexual passion, marriage (1 Corinthians 7:9).
2) For those who can and are willing to, absolute chastity. Physical chastity would not be enough since looking at a woman (or whatever gender, for that matter) with lust is in itself a sin (Matthew 5:28). This is only achieved through ascetic discipline (prayer, fasting).

So was Origen a eunich? haha! joke... Most Christians these days get their teaching from the likes of Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer, so what do you expect?

Origen's castration was heretical. He meant well, no doubt, but is more honored as a historian than as a theologian.
