If it's with the V6, yes they were relatively reliable cars for a Chrysler product. If it's with the 4 cylinder, they had head gasket issues.

I have a 2004 Stratus and have had no problems whatsoever. Do not listen to those guys bad mouthing Dodge. It's those people that don't know what they're talking about. No matter what make or model, you will have problems with it. They're mechanical, they don't last forever. How many Chevy's have you seen broke down or Fords or Dodge or especially foreign cars?? My Dodge Stratus---excellent car, so far!!!

Its only a few years old so it should be fine for a few years. Just change the oil every 3000. If youre going to spend about 6-9k on this car, you may want to look into a 2002-2004 Toyota Camry or a 2000-2002 Honda Accord. I would swear by either of these choices as they are two of the most reliable cars on the road.

Have the lower ball joints checked, especially if you hear any "popping" noises when turning into driveways. The lowers have no grease zerks and will wear out and break. Other than that, I had a '96 with over 109,000 miles before I traded it on a '04 Stratus.

oh boy are you in for it!!! I have owned one, with a new motor and tranny, for 8 months and have put about 2,000$ into it and now the electrical system is going. That is another common falfunction in these POS's. Water pump went had to tear half the motor apart and replace the timing belt while we were at it, then lie 2 weeks later the head gasket went and that cost us 1200$ to have it fixed. These are throw away cars!!!! NOT GOOD CARS
