OK, I'm a hockey fan, so I could answer any fight involving Tiger Williams--but that's being a wise guy. I'm assume you're thinking in terms of boxing, so here goes. Even now, I have yet to see either of the Hearns-Leonard bouts in their entirety, so I'm not counting them. There are two (I know you asked for one, oh well) that stand out for me. 1982--Alexis Arguello vs. Aaron Pryor: Arguello, one of the most stylish fighters to ever come down the pike, and Pryor one of the all-time great brawlers. This was one of the most savage fights I've ever seen. I'd still like to know what was in Pryor's water bottle between Rounds 13 and 14 (read about it on the Web.), but I could still watch that fight from beginning to end today.
The most entertaining bout I've ever seen was the 1985 fight between "Hitman" Thomas Hearns vs. "Marvellous" Marvin Hagler. Nonstop action, nonstop punching, nonstop movement, and none of the clutching and grabbing that so many boxing matches seem to degenerate into. There are a lot of other classics from the 80's, but those are the two that make the top of my list.

WOW if you ever worried that the average boxing fan is in need of a pugilistic education just read some of these responses, good grief. Chavez vs Taylor (1990) not an 80s fight, "all the fights between Hagler and Hearns" by that u meant the one and only fight they had??? The Ali-Spinks rematch at the Superdome was in 1978 (not an 80s fight). Did I hallucinate or did someone mention Camacho and "great fight" in the same sentence, nah must've been a mirage, Camacho, should've changed his name to Camacho the Duck(er).
The war between Hagler and Hearns (3rds) was a great one, but Hagler vs Mugabi lasted 11rds and at times it looked like Hagler was in trouble, Mugabi succumbed to Haglers constant attack.
But, I give the nod to Alexis Arquello vs Aarron Pryor in 1982, 14rds of toe to toe action, with the 14th rd showing the Great Arguello pummeled and finally stopped, and the camera shot getting in tight on Alexis' face as he wheeped and then panned to his son also crying. Drama like that you just can't write.
And the famous statement by Panama Lewis "give me the bottle no not that one the one that I mixed" to this day people still discuss whether the "mixed" bottle he gave to Pryor contained a stimulant, but Aaron did look fresh coming out for that next round.

The 1985 fight of the year: Marvelous Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hit Man Hearns. A bloody war for 3 rounds with Hagler retaining his Middleweight crown. Absolutely the best 1st round ever. This was a war.

The one that springs to mind straight away has got to be Hagler Vs Hearns it has got to be the fight i have watched more times than any other, and one of the only fights i can remember that was hyped up but actually lived up to expectation, there are many more fights that are coming to mind now that i am thinking about the 80's but none that compare to that fight.

Jane oh Jane! Your question brings back many great memories! What a fantastic decade for boxing! A very difficult question to pick just one. I started brainstorming and jotting down fights from that decade and stopped myself at 23 fights that I thought were great ones. The obvious choice and one I can't argue with would be Hagler/Hearns. I can't pick one so I'll pick two memorable to me. Bobby Chacon vs. Rafael "Bazooka" Limon IV what a war! My father's home office is down in Miami and the guys that worked there had connections and dad scored tickets for the first Arguello/Pryor fight! A classic slugfest! As a 15 year old kid that fight made real impression on me, what guts and character both guys showed in the ring that night. One thing I remember about the Orange Bowl crowd that night is how loud they were. They were totally into the fight and very pro Arguello. Jane thanks for the question it brought back some memories!

For me it was WBA lightweight champion Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini verse Duk Koo Kim of South Korea. It is a fight that will never be forgotten; very unfortunate. The battle actually changed the boxing world
"As a consequence of the fight, studies were carried out, which revealed that usually a boxer receives most of his or her punishment after round 12, and because of that finding, the WBC soon shortened its title bouts to a 12 round distance. The WBA and WBO followed in 1988 and the IBF did in 1989."
There were lots of fights with Hector Macho Camacho, Sugar Ray Leonard, Vinny Paz and Marvoulous Marvin Haglar that I would place pretty high but the most memorable has to be the before mentioned.

Leonard vs Duran I, it was an exciting start to the decade. So much hostility. Duran was eyeing him up for over a year.
For sheer build up, Leonard vs Hearns. It was protracted and there was an aura of invincibility over Tommy that created an illusion that Hearns was unbeatable and Leonard was afraid. Not true of both accounts.
For hype Holmes vs Conney. Good fight but one sided. Didn't live up to its billing as a super fight.
Hagler vs Hearns was a war and the fight with Leonard was a good exhibition.
The rise of the biggest box office attraction in sport Mike Tyson and to close the decade. Roberto Duran winning the middleweight title from Iran Barkley.
Mike Tyson.

Duran vs Leonard 1 was a great fight and a big one but I have to say Hagler vs Hearns and their 3 round war with that first round being probably the greatest first round of all time!
