not necessarily. and your question is very unclear.
(2nd post) it's irrational, irresponsible behavior but not necessarily a mental illness issue. sounds more like someone has a drug problem and will go to any extent to support that problem no matter who gets hurt. obviously, this person needs to put this other person out of their life and move on to a healthy relationship. upon choosing to do so, (even though they are not the one with the drug problem) they need to attend counseling (at most) and alanon (at least) to get over their codependency issues. no one would stay in that kind of relationship and have those things occur that did not have a codependency issue.

People that are poor themselves know what it's like to be without. I have found that they are more likely to help out others because they know what it's like. There is always someone worse off than you. My family doesn't have that much but I work at a school where there are kids who have nothing. I am the first to buy some mittens or a bookbag even though I am an aide and almost everyone makes more than me.

Sometimes people are just so kind and trusting that they will help anyone, even if they are the ones that really need the help. There are others that will help people almost compulsively, because they feel that it's the right thing to do. So, it can be a psychological defect, in a sense, that drives them to be so generous. I believe, in general, that good, kind, generous souls just feel the need to help for the greater good.

no i dont think its a psychological affliction. i think it is an honorable human trait. , one which i am willing to suffer from. if i share what little i have ,eased the pain of one ,without thought of gain or "whats in it for me" then i have justified my existance on this earth to one who put me here.
