Callous is the body's response to extreme pressue on an area of the body; it is forming a protective barrier. Exfoliation is the sloughing cycle of, in this case, dead skin tissue. So, if you have thick callouses, then your feet are exfoliating at a rate much slower than the buildup of skin callous. There are many things you can do to soften the callous if you wish, to speed the exfoliation process- both chemical and manual. I suggest you google "foot callous information" to get any relevant information you may need. Good luck!

If you don't add cream to your feet and walk around in bare feet then you will find that they will get tried and calloused
