firstly i think you have to seperate what man does from what God would do
until you can seperate that , you will never believe
man kills in the name of religion because they are deluded , awful things happen to children because people are sick
this is not God
but the way i see it is ( and you know i believe in God )
that if there was only death , then these sad awful events would just be the end of that person
i believe that because there is a God , they are held in safe arms until we can be with them again

added note
i am sure you know of many other reasons i believe also xx

Quite simply, the only way to be true to yourself is for you to decide.

A little more complicatedly - "Belief" is a shorter way to say "passionate opinion", and by definition cannot be wrong or right. It is simply what you think. So think critically about the world around you, your experience in life thus far, what you can prove and not prove, and what do come up with? That is your answer.

A word of caution - organized religion actively promotes a certain set of beliefs that you will have to hold to in the face of conflicting evidence. There is no way to logically reconcile these conflicts, and so they will expect you to take their word "on faith". In fact, a large part of religion is the act of believing in something you can't prove.
However, life can be hard to get through sometimes and religion has provided many people with a sense of happiness and strength. If the traditions and pageantry that religion provides is what you're looking for, then go for it. If not, then do not succumb to the pressure to follow their teachings simply for the sake of belonging to the majority.

Hope that helps some...

this is certainly a bigger question than a yahooanswers can truly provide answers for. its a life changing question and answer. i think you should talk to someone with some kind of religious authority.
and you're right, Christians have been killed for thousands of years, yet the religion is still here. There must be a reason for this, that so many people would rather die than convert. The best thing to do is really research-check out books debating these issues an check out c.s. lewis. a genious who converted to Christianity. something obviously makes sense here. but i cant convert you over this i really do wish you luck in your findings. pursue outside help, and this doesnt count.

How will you know if it is a Bible verse or not? I could easily just change up a few words in a thesaurus, and then therefore I wouldn't have to quote it, therefore, it's not distinquishable from other sentences.

You believe in God because you choose to.
God is against murder. Therefore, the God that is against murder is not the same God as you are thinking of if they are dying in the name of religion unless the rapist/serial killer is not a true Christian.

Sadly you are right - children, and adults are mistreated everyday in some of the cruelest ways. God exists in this world, but so does Satan. The only place where Satan is king is hell. God doesn't want people to suffer, he wants the best for all of us even the sinners that we think that can't possibly be saved. "Draw close to God and He will draw close to you." I believe there is some information that we aren't suppose to know, but we should find out as much as we can so we won't be ignorant. To really answer your question (sorry to go sorta off topic). You should believe in God because -
- He knows you deep down and knows how you feel.
- He not only knows you, but cares for you and wants the
best for you.
- He knows every given detail about you - how many
hairs are on your head and when they come out.
- He has changed the life of so many of us (me too) who
can give testamonies on how he has lead us.
- Other religions are harsher...some even say that their
god insn't alive. Christianity makes more sense to me.

most of all:
- He sent His only son born of virgin to live and die on
a cross for all of our sins and for our healing so that we
may have a life forever where there is no war, no
sickness or hatred & pervision and no Satan and
anything of him. All you have to do is ask for
(& mean it) forgivness and invite Him into your heart so
that you may have all of this.
- Why not believe? - if you don't believe in God, you don't
go to heaven.

If you believe in nothing you'll fall for anything.

God has nothing to do with rapes and murders...... it's humans who do these things. God has nothing to do with the killing in the name of religion..... that's humans again. You're blaming God for what humans do. I could suggest a much better book than the bible, but I can tell your mind is made up already, so discover it on your own if you ever get to that point in your life.

GOD is subjective
believe or don't as your heart and intellect directs
I believe that each individual needs to come to terms with their own beliefs about a god.
But if you want to know then do your own search for god-look beyond Christianity or Muslim or any other organized religion-look at them all. If you find one that speaks to your heart and mind embrace it.
I was raised very conservative christian-as an adult I have searched for what I believe about god not what someone else tells me about god.
I do believe that there is something greater than ourselves out there-why? because my life experiences have told me so. BUT I do not necessarily believe that humans have the capacity to completely understand who or what god is let alone interpret what he wants for or from us.
I know within myself what the basics of right and wrong are-and so does everyone else. I remain true to myself and my beliefs.
that is why I am a deist

Because in spite of everything wrong that is going on in the world today, He still believes in you. And you don't need to be religious to believe in God. My mother is heavily into religion;always has been, and always will be. Growing up in her house was hell for me. She was like the mother on the movie "Carrie". And I'm not joking! But, I got through it. That's why I believe in God. Because if he could help me make it out of my mom's house alive and normal enough to carry on a life of my own (I'm married to a wonderful man, and have three beautiful kids), then he can help me through anything. And sure, I go to church sometimes; not every Sunday, but sometimes. I bring my kids up to be spiritual. I feel like God will appreciate a spiritual fruit moreso than a religious nut! My mom beat church and religion into my head so much, that I hated church for a long time. I don't want my kids to grow up like that, because I feel it is important to have some sort of spiritual background, but it's not okay to lose oneself in a religion. Hope this helps.

When I am trouble, that is when I see that I need God more than ever. Even though we may not, and may never understand why God allows such things, it is statistically proven that in times of trouble, people draw closer to God.

The things you have mentioned have always been. Satan is ruler of this world and nothing is going to change until Christ comes back to redeem his own. Knowing God and believing in his word (the bible)and his promises made to us through Christ our redeemer gives us hope that there is a better place to go to than this world of evil.
