Hi Mary Beth,
There are drugs I take too, that cause skin problems. With a disease that I have, it's very important that I drink lots of water every day. I noticed that, once I started drinking the prescribed 3 liters of water every day, my skin became very clear and very soft & smooth. in fact, I used to see a dermatologist for rosacea, and it's no longer an issue. It may be as simple as drinking water.

I take 1800mgs of lithium. I too have facial acne. I use all the over the counter preparations. Seems like you are too. Your doing everything right.
One thing that has helped me is soaking the affected area with a hot wash cloth. As hot as you can stand it........and keep the hot pack in place (on a pimple) until it cools. When that cools then put more hot water on it. Keep soaking each affected area for 15 minutes each (each pimple)
It really works. It draws the infection out........ but you have to do it in the morning and night time beginning with a clean face. When you feel a pimple beginning to emerge, start hot packing it. When it rises with a head then hot pack it.
Don't get discouraged. If anything go to your doctor and ask for Retin-A. Its a acne medicine that is very strong. Good luck to you.
Keep taking the lithium! That's important. Your acne has nothing to do with weight, diet, exercise, cleanliness of the skin. Don't be bullied into believing that.
Good luck

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

Hey!
Acne is a side-effect of Lithium. I have battled it for many years and it gets worse during that "time of the month."
The best things I found that worked are: washing my face with soap and warm water (on the hotter side) once in the morning and once at night and using Strydex pads after that. (It might burn abit, but it is getting into the open pores!)
You might have to try a bunch of different products to find the one that helps you, but I sympathise with you because it stinks!

maybe its not acne, ive never heard of acne as a side effect..but rashes are a side effect of lithium...talk to your doctor to prevent overdosing...lithium has a very narrow therapeutic range and overdosing can be seriously fatal!!!

Well a friend of mine tried pro-active solution. You know those commercials w/p diddy & jessica simpson. It worked for her and she also washed her face every night w/warm water and soap or a cleansing cloth. It was rough on her too so hang in there and drink lots of water to keep your skin moisturized so you don't dry it out too much. Good luck
