A round diamond will show its size best. A beautiful, round 2 carat diamond would be "noticeable", depending upon what circles you travel in (do most of the people you know have 1 carat rings or 4 carat rings)? Consider that a small stone of higher quality may not be as "noticeable", but may be considered classy, demure, understated, beautiful. And I don't think it's wrong to decide what size you'd like and discuss it with your man. He can save for the ring you want. It's a special, once-in-a-lifetime purchase.

Tell you what you should be asking...can people tell that we are in love...the size of your ring won't make a difference! If your concerned about getting "noticed" you may want to re-evaluate your end of the relationship. This advice coming from someone who has two rings...a 3 karat and a dainty little band both get equal compliments...and you know it's not the ring it's the man...I don't think I would have even considered a question like this!

Buy the best diamond your money can buy. (If your budget is $1000, buy the best $1000 diamond). There are big less expensive diamonds but you compromise on clarity and color, two of the "4 Cs". These are important because these make the rock very noticeable. Later on in the marriage, you can always trade up (some jewelry stores will buy back your old stone for a bigger/more expensive stone) if you're into that.
And, a happy smiling fiancee will make even the tiniest diamond sparkle!

Well, if you've ever been inside a jewellery store (not wal-mart or k-mart) like Kays for example, you would notice the different rings there and the different carrat sizes. I would personally like to have a three stone ring that is atleast a quarter carrat. Possibly with smaller diamonds around it but my hunnie can be the judge there as long as my diamonds are extremely noticeable I don't really care about the carrat size but a quarter carrat would be nice!

actually as long as it comes from the heart what does it matter the size. Only a selfish woman would care about the size of the rock in the ring. Why was it become more important about how big the rock is and the meaning has gone out the window.

It has nothing to do with carat as it has to do with all the other Cs.
Cut, Clarity, Colour are more important than Carat.
For example, my girlfriend and I have very similar engagment rings. She has a 1 carat and her cut is a brilliance cut, with a clarity of S2 and a colour of H. My ring is 0.75 carats, cut brillance, clarity vs1 and colour D and my ring cost more than my girlfriends and is appraised for more amount. When we are together people notice my ring more and comment on it much more. They notice mine first and then I always tell them to look at hers but they seem more interested in mine as it shines much nicer than hers.

I guess a lot would depend on the size of your hand. If you have a bigger hand then you would need a bigger diamond in order for it to be noticeable. In reverse, if you have a small hand then you wouldn't need such a big rock and it would still be noticable. I have a friend who has very small hands and her ring is 1.5 - it looks huge on her and "average" on me.
And, as another person pointed out, the other "C"s are just as important!
Good luck!

Fashion question or not.. that's still SO shallow! If all you're wanting is something to make all your friends jealous... go buy yourself a nice CZ..
But for the sentiment... let him pick it out. Whatever it is that he can afford. It's totally unfair to start the whole "Well, if it's not at least 1.5 carats, it's not good enough."
Suggest what type of cuts you like (round, princess, etc.) and what type of metal, and let him pick it out. You'll treasure it more if he does!

who freakin cares if it's noticeable? I hope your fiance or whatever is reading this and kicks your gold diggin butt to the curb. It's the size of the LOVE and the size of the MARRIAGE that matter, not the diamond inside the ring. I pity the fool who is dumb enough to go after you, he better watch his wallet, because he's gonna be one broke mo fo if he messes with you very long. As far as this only being a fashion question, that's BS, you knew you'd get a lynching on here for asking such a dumb*** question

A one carat diamond is noticeable, of course not as much as a 2carat (damn I want a 2carat) anyway, if you or your babe don't have lot's of cash it's cool, don't worry about people noticing your ring, ANY ring on the "ring" finger is noticeable.
