Is it justice or revenge or both>

Nope. Violence in the name of God or any other deity is still violence. Same for murder. Murder for a religious cause is still murder. It is absolutely NOT justice.

As for revenge, it depends on the circumstances as to whether or not it's revenge or just outright violence or murder. I know I'm probably going to open up a can of worms in bringing up my thoughts on 9-11 and the Iraq war, but since I can't think of another example off the top of my head at 11 pm, I'm going to say it anyway.

Think of what's going on right now. Osama drew first blood on 9-11. Far as I know, his reasoning for it was religious in nature, calling it a holy war. Didn't take us long to turn around and go to war in Afghanistan to go after him. Now, I'm not saying that Osama needs to be free. Quite the contrary. He was responsible for the murder of innocents all across the board, so obviously, by law, he needs to be caught.

However, there's obviously revenge and religiousness on our end involved, especially when the war inexplicably shifted to Iraq. Far as I know, Osama's still at large, five years later. Go figure that one out. Bush has even admitted that there never were any WMDs in Iraq in Saddam's hands. So why hit Iraq? Our focus was and should have been on Osama cave-jumping across Afghanistan and possibly into Pakistan as well.

My opinion is there's oil involved, but outside of the "black gold", there's religiousness involved as well. I could also step into the minefield of saying there's also a bit of a vendetta going on from Papa Bush's original Gulf War. But even without oil and a political vendetta, there's still religion.

Iraq and Afghanistan are both Islamic countries. Just because a fanatic like Osama warped Islam and used his views to attack America, doesn't mean that Islam's a terrible, violent religion, no more than Christianity is. Or have we all conveniently forgotten the Crusades all those centuries ago? What was that if not a holy war? It's in history books, trust me. And the Crusades were no more good violence in the name of God than Osama's attacks on 9-11 were good violence in the name of Allah.

Violence only spawns more violence and revenge only spawns more revenge. Fear spawns hate and hate only spawns more hate until it consumes us.

As you can see, violence is never a good idea, let alone when it's hidden behind the veil of religion, regardless of WHICH religion such intentions are hidden behind.

Yes. God says we are to live by man's Law while we are on this earth. So If a man murders someone and the Law says he should be put to death so be it. Thats the Law you commit a crime you pay the price. Man has laws for order. Now for me as an individual who believes in the word of God (The Bible) God says revenge is his, in other words he will get the revenge. But of course we being humans sometimes fails. Really violence doesn't work ask MLK or Ghandhi.

Violence in the name of religion only begets violence by another religion. While violence may at times be necessary, it should be in a defensive mode, not in an offensive mode.

i in my opinion believe that folk might want to take duty for his or her own moves and judgements. appearing violence contained in the call of a deity is like appearing violence contained in the call of your neighbor or buddy. once you've a violent urge, understand that it is your urge and take care of it. Violence is, in spite of the indisputable fact that, typically finished contained in the names of assorted gods because it really is a accessible thanks to regulate gullible thousands of human beings in route of what can in basic terms be political ends. operating example: The Crusades, the Inquisition, the Salem witch-burnings, quite some Jihads, etc... even as ostensibly for religious motives, all were about conquest, riches, and/or consolidation of political capacity. I do believe that usually it could be important to strive against for our own religious freedom. in spite of the indisputable fact that, even if so it really is OUR freedom we are struggling with for, not that of any deity.

Violence is the act of the incompetent. Yes, it is sometimes necessary but it is never good. Even the classic example of fighting world war II to defeat Hitler. It was certainly necessary but it should never have happened.

So, no.

No-absolutely not. I have read the Bible-yet I find no place where God says kill in his name, or take revenge in his name. Yet it does say, vengence is mine, (meaning God alone).

Yes it can be good God does not want his people to be rug mats for other to walk on and mistreat. Stand up for Christ and don,t deny him this may mean you will have to stand your ground Christians take ground not give up ground. This does not mean we should take the offense like Muslim followers did on 9 11 but we have the right to protect our way of life. If we don,t protect our way of life there are groups of people in this world who would take away our freedom to openly worship Jesus Christ. I for one will fight to keep our right to worship Jesus Christ the one and only true God.
