I am not a christian, but the Qur'an confirms your belief:

21:35 Every soul shall have a taste of death: and We test you by evil and by good by way of trial. To Us must ye return.

Even steel must be tested and strengthened in the fire........

Grace and Peace my sister,
Jesus said that we would have tribulation. Now we have to go to the main source to get the correct answer which is the bible.
Trials come in different ways, now one example I see of a great trial was with Jesus himself he had to go through the for 40 days, which he successfully accomplished and notice that only after he went through that then God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power and then he went about doing good, preaching the Gospel and performing miracles.
No the Lord does not put them on us but God "will allow what we allow". These times of trials I believe are the times of fire where we can be under the pressure just like coal until a diamond is the result. Look at your trials as a place or season where you can exercise your Faith and speak to those mountains with the authority that you have in Christ.
God Bless you I sister I Love You!!!

GOD knows when satan is Sending an Attack (trial to some).
GODs Mercy Protects us as much as We let it.
When we Sin, we Force GOD to move a Little of HIS Mercy back from Us allowing the Devil to Kill, Steal and Destroy more.

The Attacks are Comning no matter What. Untill Jesus comes back and Locks up the Attackers (satan and his Angels).

The Closer you get to GOD and STAY THERE, even though the Attacks still come, they Don't Affect you as Much or any at All.

You can Learn and Grow and get Strong in the Lord BEFOR the Attacks come, or you can stay weak and when attacked Try to Get Strong DURING the Attack.
Which is Hard to do but can be Done.

There are no Attacks in Heaven, devil ain't there.

Many come along just because someone somewhere is disobeying God.

Others are to bring about our good. It may take a long time to see the good. But trust that it will be because Our Heavenly Father Knows Best.

Look at the travels of the people of Israel through the desert in the Exodus. Entire generations died off without seeing the promised land.

Faith on Trial
1 Peter 4:12-19
Some days we feel as if our faith is on trial and Satan is running a cross-examination that challenges our confidence in God. But the only important question is this: Are you going to believe what the Lord says, no matter what He allows into your life?
The heavenly Father always has a purpose for testing believers' faith. He stretches us so that we will have a greater capacity to serve Him. Though we may sometimes feel we are at our limit, the process actually occurs gently, like stretching a new rubber band a little at a time. With each extension, we are able to accomplish more for His glory.
It is often easy to trust God for certain things more than others, but He desires our complete dependence, regardless of the situation. That is why He will test His children in the same area repeatedly until they can successfully bear up under the pressure. Afterward, they will be able to testify to non-Christians about what the Bible says and also about their own experience of divine help in dark valleys.
We will taste both success and failure as our faith is in the process of growing. The disciple Peter had a share of both. But each time the Lord stretched him, his capacity for service became greater. In the book of Acts, it is Peter who fearlessly preaches at Pentecost and also heals a lame man without a shred of doubt. (Acts 2:14-36; 3:1-7)

Our faith will be put on trial. If we are wise believers, we will respond by trusting God to stretch and develop our conviction until we are the men and women He desires us to be.

The Need for Increased Faith
Luke 17:1-6
This passage gives a wonderful exchange between Jesus and His disciples. The Lord made two statements that completely shocked His disciples. In response, they offered only one exclamation: "Increase our faith!" (Luke 17:5) What were the two things that demanded a greater level of personal faithfulness?
First, Jesus warned them that hardships would surely come. In this life, there is no escape from the sorrows of the world. As new believers, many people are shocked to discover that faith in Christ does not eradicate all of the adversity in their lives. Jesus never guaranteed a trouble-free life; in fact, He promised just the opposite. (John 16:33) Committed Christians, therefore, are certain to experience heartaches and disappointments at various times.
Second, Jesus commands total willingness to forgive others: "If your brother . . . repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, 'I repent,' forgive him" (Luke 17:3-4).
The "seven times a day" language is an illustration of persistent forgiveness. It is the model by which all believers should live their lives. Christ's forgiveness is limitless. As His followers, who are indwelt by His Spirit, we should strive for that same level of grace in our interactions with others.
Hearing these high ideals, the disciples could make no other comment than "Increase our faith!" They knew the Christian life was beyond their own power; therefore, they asked Jesus to empower them to meet His standard

We aren't 'sent' trials or hardships. Many trials are the results of choices made - by ourselves or someone in our lives. Situational 'trials' like losing your job, etc. can be traced to personal choices. Physical 'hardships' can also be traced to choices - foods eaten, cigarettes smoked, drugs taken, or a multitude of other things.

You make a choice - it has an effect. Do you recognize the effect and alter your behavior, or do you continue the same behavior and expect different results? Dirt + water = mud. Would you mix dirt and water and get mud once...twice...a hundred times and expect a different result?? That is what we do with behaviors...

As you learn from various situations and alter your behaviors accordingly, you will find yourself in different situations. No one 'sends' these situations to you - you create them. You just have to be sharp enough to analyze them and figure that out.

Why do I feel God sends us trials? Well, I feel that I tend to learn what God has made me of during times of strife, because unless or until I'm actually faced with a situation, I cannot definitely say how I'd cope/deal with being IN that situation. I could only give guesses or probabilities, but honestly wouldn't be able to say what I could or couldn't cope/deal with without being TESTED and TRIED (during hardships) in order for God to show me what I've been given within to work with. I believe that's why such times were termed "hardships" and "trials", because those times are meant to be hard and to try me and my abilities just as I feel that hardships and trials are opportunities for me to allow myself to see power God has to be what God can be, and to see power God to do what God can do within God's power, and also allow God to see me putting forth ALL my faith and trust in God to step in and fulfill God's promise to me after seeing myself really show that I do indeed have faith in and trust in myself to even allow God my faith and trust, so that I can go and let God do God's will.

i dont think that anybody sends anybody any trials - its a matter of fate, but if you want to translate fate into faith, I think that that complicates matters. Why do people need to believe that someone up or out there is setting the pace (or sending trials). Take life as it is, not make it more complicated.

Opportunity is often disguised as misfortune. When something tragic happens to us, we are forced to make decisions that we might otherwise not make. More often than not, things turn out better for having made those choices than if things had remained the same. Perhaps its just God's way of nudging us in the right direction.

My favorite line from my pastor is, "God doesn't care about your comfort, he cares about your character". Kind of like the "I never promised you a rose garden" song. There is a lesson in every trial and we grow as we either a) figure it out or b) give it up to Him and not question it anymore. Usually I give it up, then happily find the answer later - maybe years - down the road.
