When a magnetic field (like lightning) gets too close to your monitor, it draws the colors to one side. I learned how to fix this with the deguas (sp?) button. It happened to my TV. Does anyone know if there is a similar fix, or is it a cheap repair, or is it now trash?

depends on the age of the TV.

since you're talking about degaussing, i'm guessing you got something magnetic near your TV and now you got funky colors...or you moved it from near something you didn't know was magnetic...

modern monitors do have a seperage degauss circuit, and most modern TV's have one built in..however, it's one that fires only on turn on, and not at will like with a monitor. turning it off should make the degauss in the TV kick over, if it has one....otherwise..leave it off overnight...tubes naturally lose the magnetic field as they cool..however, if they're old, they lose this ability. Your best bet is to buy a degaussing coil. I don't think radio shack sells these anymore...but most arcade supply places do (happcontrols.com)...you might also want to call a electronics repair shop in your area and ask them if they'll degauss it and exactly how much it takes. I can tell you from expierence it takes literally 20 seconds to do and these guys might want to charge you 50 bucks to do it. however, i'd leave it turned off over night and see how it does.

and lightening won't cause a magnetic filed that would do that, if your TV was close enough for it to..well, it'd be melted from the heat of lightning hitting it.

Sounds like the TV's picture might be going out. It happened to our tv, it was old and the color was turning more and more green. And then lighting hit it, and afterwards the color was back to normal. And the TV did end up lasting a couple more month until it just died and went to TV heaven.
