In discussing the Bible with Christians, when referencing verses in the Old Testament, I've often been told that Christians do not follow the Old Testament, making my arguments inapplicable in the discussion.
I've since asked Christian friends why, then, do they follow the Ten Commandments, as the only times they are formally listed are in the Old Testament?
They're response has been that Christians follow the New Testament, as that is what has been written since the coming of Jesus, whom Christians accept as their savior. However, where there are "holes" in the New Testament (as they put it), they refer to the Old Testament to "fill in the blanks."
Are there any other blanks that need filling in the New Testament, other than what can be filled with the Ten Commandments? If so, what are they, and what verses in the Old Testament fill them?
Do any Christians have any other, completely different, explanations for these queries?

True Christians respect the whole Bible, not just the Greek Scriptures. 2 Tim. 3:!6 says; "All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial."

The new testament does not negate the Old testament.
The Old Testament spells out how we should live by using the Ten Commandments, The New testament sums it all up by saying that we Should Love God and we Should love our neighbors. You cannot break any Commandment and love. Too, if you love, you fulfill all of the Commandments.
There are no holes in the Bible. You just need to be more particular about choosing one.
The Bible states, "This is the word of God, nothing shall be added and nothing shall be taken away.
No so called Bible, recently printed, in the last fifty years read the same, page for page. That means, the print shops doing the type setting and printing are making changes as they see fit.
There is even one, that is so blatant with its changes that it is known as a version of the bible. Why would anyone want a Version of the Bible, and not the bible. Today, we have yet another version, it is called the New American Bible.
What is this with NEW, too, what is this with a Bible for Americans? It is no wonder that so many are confused.
The word of God, Nothing shall be ADDED, nothing shall be taken AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOD knew what He was doing, and He certainly does not need man to clarify His words. NO CHANGES ALLOWED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's an easier way to explain it.....
The Ten Commandments are from God directly ... the original ones were written by the finger of God in stone, and supposedly are in the Ark of the Covenant (wherever that is now lol)
The other rules, called "Laws of Moses" are just that, written by Moses to help the Israelites become a nation, all while travelling through the desert in some of the harshest conditions man can take.
There are rules written in them that simply don't apply to us today, as they were for purposes of the body. Not eating pork, shellfish, the treatment of slaves ... we don't need these anymore, conditions have changed dramatically.
Some rules were written for the body, some for the mind, some for the soul. But the 10 Commandments are for all three.
Hope that helps some

I think that Christians follow the whole book as it is all inspired of God and beneficial for teaching.
The New Testament is where we find that we are under a new covenant -because of Jesus Christ.
I think this new covalent is what some people are talking about .Jer 31:31.
Luke chapter 10 verses 25-28. Those were given as our New set of commandments..

Jesus founded the universal new covenant church and gave it the sole authority to make laws governing the the faithful.
He never gave such authority to the Bible.
Any old laws that we still follow are due to the authority of the church, which readopted them and readapted them to the new realities of the age of grace.
The first commandment in particular was no longer applicable to the new covenant as written, as a strict interpretation of it would prohibit the worship of Jesus himself.
The old testament of the Bible itself will never go out of date, because it contains much, much more than laws and statutes.

The old testomony remains the comprehend God, in spite of the indisputable fact that, as believers, we are now undecided by technique of the "regulation" of Moses. we've a more effective perfect covenant (New Covenant or New testomony). Hebrews chp 7 & Ch 9. the hot testomony nonetheless speaks of girls human beings dressing modestly, and likely we'd want to continually. we can nonetheless placed on earrings & makeup, in spite of the indisputable fact that that is the spirit that concerns maximum. pork remains not healthful, in spite of the indisputable fact that if someone needs to devour it ocassionally, then they don't seem sinning. i will ought to seek for that scripture contained in the NT that talks about nutrients being blessed (or something to that nature). also, fornicatin isn't ok. it really is also contained in the NT. Fornicators & Adulterers God will choose.

Gospel According to Saint Luke
Chapter 8
5 The sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
6 And other some fell upon a rock: and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 And other some fell among thorns, and the thorns growing up with it, choked it. 8 And other some fell upon good ground; and being sprung up, yielded fruit a hundredfold. Saying these things, he cried out: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 9 And his disciples asked him what this parable might be. 10 To whom he said: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to the rest in parables, that seeing they may not see, and hearing may not understand.
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 And they by the way side are they that hear; then the devil cometh, and taketh the word out of their heart, lest believing they should be saved. 13 Now they upon the rock, are they who when they hear, receive the word with joy: and these have no roots; for they believe for a while, and in time of temptation, they fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns, are they who have heard, and going their way, are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and yield no fruit. 15 But that on the good ground, are they who in a good and perfect heart, hearing the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit in patience.
