I went to a university re-union recently, and met a bloke that I haven't seen for several years. He was a good friend of mine who always had lots of girlfriends because he was the really good-looking, out-going type. But he looked truly awful.

He said he had a really bad marriage and lost everything, and he's decided it's better to be on his own that risk all that heartache again. I feel that he has truly given up hope of finding a compatible partner and has decided to devote his life to his work. It's obvious he really means it (I suggested he meet a female friend of mine and he basically said no chance). He's coming round for dinner next Wednesday.

I know that he is a decent, intelligent man who has a lot to offer. How can I convince him that he should meet other women?

He's been divorced for 3 years, and hasn't been on a date since.

You don't. He'll know if or when he's ready to date again. We cannot decide these things for others. Nudging him along creates a wall between the two of you. He is still grieving. People recover at their own pace, own way...and we have to simply be supportive. It's life, and he's having a tough time. Just remember he said, "no chance". Leave it at that for now.

It's too good to help a friend when he is alone and really need help but ...dont hold your friend's hand for help till he really need it and he want you to help him out from all that stuff otherwise things will turn upside down....
He will only listen to your advice when he really need otherwise he will take it some other way and will be useless for you so let him come to you then u can help him from this critical condition...

give him time to get over his bad marriage and recover, he wont be in the mood to meet or impres any girls when hes feeling badly, just hang out and do guy stuff with him and no women until hes feeling better. once he is he'll be ready to meet new woman, and then hopefully he'll be confident in himself again. give him time and support!

I think that rather throwing him into a relationship that he is not ready for you should work on being there as a friend and help him gain his self esteem back...
