One can make the Bible say almost anything, if they mix, match, and take out. Take a look at the context of the verses, look at the people who are saying these things, examine their condition when they say it, and remember, God's perspective is very much different than man's! Sure, when the Psalmist is sad, might it not seem like God is sleeping? In reality, perhaps the Psalmist was simply being put through yet another test. And Job, was not he in the depths of sadness? It didn't make sense to him why he was being punished! And of the verse in Samuel, the same of which happens to be in Psalm 18, John Wesley's Explanatory Notes say, "Or, upon the cherubim, upon the angels, who are also called God's chariots, Psalms 68:17, upon which he is said to sit and ride. All which is not to be understood grossly, but only to denote God's using the ministry of angels, in raising such storms and tempests." God bless!

I really think what you are finding, is mostly poetic expressions of human impatience towards God. I don't see these as "revelatory" in nature, more expressive of the feelings of the writers. Especially in Job's case: he was a miserable person, and understandably so!
Miserable people, and there were plenty of them in the Bible (as today) sometimes say things about others (even God) that aren't accurate. Their spouted words merely reflect their own emotions.
The poetry you quote from 2 Samuel 22 is likewise an expression of King David's feelings, not a revelation of God's appearance or character.

I agree.. and what do u mean God shows jealousy. this is the exact attitude the the writer is speaking about.. how can God be jealous? Doesnt he teach us not to covet.. or does God teach us something that He doesnt show. How can God show anger.. Him who is kind and forgiving.. he is above petty emotions like that.
I dont believe the author is defining blasphemy. The point is the perhaps people have altered the Book and it isnt God's complete and authentic word. Do remember that 70% of the Bible is written by Paul, a man that "said" he had a vision of Jesus. This wouldnt be the first contradiction.. Jesus brought the word of God but people have changed it.. churches along the way (Lutheran church)..kings (King Henry)
funny that we can pick and choose what is literal and what is a figure of speech.. like Son of God.. could be a figure of speech cuz more than once we are called the children of God but we choose to say its literal..

In fact, Orthodox Jews and other sects will not swear on a Bible, but only "affirm." Obviously, most mainstream religions have a different view since thousands of people swear on Bibles everyday in courtrooms across the country.

The Bible does not cast God in the most positive of light.
That's why it shouldn't be considered as a serious piece of work. Sure, it has some good things in it, but stories of a dim-witted, petty, insecure god are not that great. If I wanted to read about gods acting like humans, I'd go read the Greek stories.

Actually your interpretation of those passages is all wrong. Oh and God has anger he has jealousy he has emotions. God made humans in his image. God is not like us we are like God. God does sleep, and the passages where they say bad things about God is the people talking about there bad situation and how God did not help them but in the end he does.

how do you know for a fact that god isn't like that?--by the definition of blasphemy you are the guilty party, not the authors of the bible--if god himself did not like these potrayals, then why hasn't he had them removed from the bible? Just because god is not exactly what you want him to be doesn't mean you have the right to define him--he is what he is

When you get a chance, find someone who has a command of language and ask them to explain "figures of speech" to you.
When you pick out these verses, go back and read them in their context and find out what they are communicating.

It also says that he doesn't exist! But does that make the Bible untrue? I think if you went back and read the verses in context you will see that they don't have the same meaning that you are trying to use to make the bible untrue.
