a grey bearded man in the sky, who lived here for a time and then replaced himself with us, who now sits up in the sky, looking down on us, watching, registering the scores on his laptop as to whether we are in compliance with his rules or not; waiting until we die to either reward us with eternal bliss or punish us with an eternity of suffering? These are very bizzare beliefs, but it was the image handed to me and many others for the nine years i was in a catholic school and for the four years i served as an altar boy; in those days noone wanted to answer my existential questions about the nature of reality, i was encouraged to believe what i was taught rather than encouraged to decide for myself. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for starting out with an organized religion; i found it to be a useful stepping stone to get to the next level of spirituality.

Another Dimensional Truth Seeker! Love it! *smiles* ~ You're a good writer... I love the way you presented this question/subject...fun reading the reactions it gets too...some a bit sad, some scary answers but your "basic", typical reactions. I prefer bizarre answers that are also in the line of "thinking" like: "God is an artist that created the palette of life, lol, trying to teach us that all is not black and white but it's the Grey that counts" ~ or God is a musician that created all through the vibrational pitch and tones that results from his mathematical existance.. I personally like the readings of Wisdom ~ "She" was by his side during creations, said well at this link http://www.michaelsheiser.com/Wisdom%20MTIT.pdf#search='bible%20wisdom%20she%20by%20god%27s%20side' ~ I, myself, can't read a lot of the bible much as all that "Wrath" of God gets a little stressful to me. Tons of anger there but then that's more honest and real than God is La La Land and all that's good and lovely. Positive - Negative - Yin - Yang - Yes - No - Good - Bad Don't know why so many feel a need to eliminate the necessary opposing forces ~ not delving into the dimensions is like saying this planet is flat... This all makes me want to go watch Robin Williams movie "Patch"... how many fingers do you see? .

No I don't think God is some grey beaed man sitting in the sky watching us to see if we do right or wrong. First of all no man has ever seen God. The bible says he always was. As a kid I was taught a lot of false things about God. These were things passed on from Generation to Generation. As you said I am grateful for what I was taught after all it did teach me to love. Once I started reading the bible for myself I began to understand God and why I was created. God is Love. We are to live as christ and tell others of his goodness

Excellent question; glad to see it.

My answer is this: One could never tell if the presence of God ( or Goddess ) is with us on a physical level- we can't see but oftentimes "feel "- hence the term, "feel the spirit." However, we "see" the effects of the spirit and how others react to it.

I don't think it is a grey bearded man- for all I know it could be my cat- no one knows, which is what makes spirituality so personal.

Thank you kindly for reading my answer and asking said "important" question. Kudos!

Sometimes I wonder the same thing. But,while growing up I just that you had to believe God. Sometimes questions are not to be answered to meer mortals like us. I've had people say to me when I ask that question ''Well you can only hope and dream.''. And I always think.....well you should think of this, the pleasure of a dream is that it's a fantasy,if it happens then it was never a dream. So I don't know what to tell you.

Those are "Hollywood" images - like they show in the movies. Kind of like angels with wings, sitting on clouds, strumming harps... they are pleasant images but not true.
The Bible says that "God is Spirit" - he is in all places at all times and knows all things - not limited to time and space as we are.
Hard to comprehend or grasp because we cannot - he is much greater than we are.
Greater in wisdom, creativity, love, compassion, mercy and grace - and those things are the image that we, his creation, bear.
He is awesome and good - the Bible says he is also light and the source of all goodness. He created us for relationship with Him.
Have you read "The Purpose-Driven Life" by Rick Warren? It addresses these things clearly, and much more.

Actually Go is the most beautiful youthful Person. He is Love and has nothing to do with this material world. Everything here is governed by His superintendents called demi-gods or higher angels. Everything is automatically being calculated so you can get your Karma good and bad. Its just natural. He doesn't want you to suffer at all. He just wants to engage in loving activities. When one is ready to do that He shows them how (bhakti) He is our best Friend but one fourth of the less intelligent souls(that's us) left to check it out down here (free will) He wont touch that though He tells us not to come here but we do not listen. So what can He do. Check out Krishna He is God at home meaning personal relationship where when He expands as Vishnu He is in the mood of God at the office Or The Supreme controller.more info www.stephen-knapp.com

God has no one form and come as anyone. God can come as a man or woman. God loves us and does not send us downstairs to heck, we all go to the same place after, although maybe you do go somewhere temporarily and not permanetely. God forgives us, just don't make too many mistakes, God will punish you, but only because God wants you to learn the right way to act.

Has God registered the 100 million victims who have been killed in his name while saying, "These religious jerks keep fighting because they can't agree on Me, but I'm not going to come down like I used to do in the Bible and straighten out their differences, let them keep killing each other". Too much spirituality can block out rational thinking. Too much religion can become a sickness called, "Religious Extremeism". and you see the harm that it can cause..

I like Santa Claus better because he brings everybody in the world gifts on Christmas. Happy that it was a useful stepping stone for you. That's about all a person can ask for, right?
