She has Shy Drager, some dementia, and has always been miserable. But this was unbearable. She is up like a sundowners person anyway. I am blaming it on the sleep aid. Any thoughts?

Sometimes she keeps me up until 4:00 am (I get up at 6:00 am) and wants to nap in the day (I will not let her). She is making the rest of the household members mad.

It is her RX. I am not taking her to an accupuncturist. That is stupid.

I like the first answer so far.

Why have you kept her alive so long then?

Thats just sick and wrong...
Old age isn't supposed to happen. The sheer number of people hobbling around in a half-living state, decayed from the inside.... is just proof that we spend all our time as a species trying to conquer nature...
And what good does it do us?
We end up with hoardes of expired humans hanging tenaciously on to life and draining our resources the whole while.

The only fair, just and merciful thing would be to just let them die.

I'm not suggesting you do anything illegal.... but you need to stop trying to keep her alive in any way, shape or form. Make her realise that her time is up... She'll go on her own that way...

Maybe there is some kind of medication she can be on. Does she have a Physician? You could hire a health care professional to come in for a few hours while you're trying to sleep. Maybe you and other family members could take turns in the night watching her. She can't help what she does and I'm sure she does not mean to bother you. Be as nice to her as you can.

I hope the Rozeram was prescribed specifically for her and not something you just gave her. There may be drug to drug reactions with her other medication. Talk to her doctor immediately for some help. What you describe about her sleep patterns is not unusual and could drive the rest of the family nuts. The family members need to look at all the alternatives.

As for your grandmother sleep cycle being.Try to look at her medications.Find out which one make her sleepy and which ones make her alert.I would look it up or you can call a pharmacist. The ones that make her alert, see if her doctor is ok with her taking them only during the day.And the ones that make her sleepy , see if she can take them at night.I have to do this with myself and my kids. But make sure you get a medical opinion first.

Rozarem is supposed to help you fall asleep. Is this her prescription or were you giving yours to her? Rozarem interacts with alcohol, rifampin, ketoconazole, fluvoxamine, among others. On its side effects profile, depression is a less frequent side effect. Since new behavior was reported, you should report it to her MD.
