Although citric acid will not cause your tongue to fall off, it will cause your tongue to turn white and peel a great deal. It can also break down the enamel on your teeth causing soft spots that can lead to cavities.

In my experience, yes, it is normal. The effects are annoying for anywhere from a few hours to a day or two depending upon how much candy I've eaten. Eventually, though, my tongue (and/or the roof of my mouth) heals. This usually doesn't happen to me if I watch myself and don't eat too much of the candy at once.

No but if you eat too much of it, your tongue will be in pain. I used to be addicted to Warheads and my tongue was messed up for a few days.

No. The worst case scenario would be that a few tastebuds will be injured. But they re-grow.
But that doesn't mean your face won't start fizzing and melt off.

Of course, it might make your teeth fall out - but that's another story!
