I am a pianist who's worked at a resort hotel in Whitefield, NH for 4 1/2 mths. I have purchased wine occasionally during the course of my working evening or a guest has bought me a drink. Last night a friend tried to buy me a glass of wine & I was told I could not have it before, during or after work on the premises as this was State law. I was told this by a new manager at the hotel. Other mgrs. at this same hotel have allowed it and never even made mention of it. None of the bartenders nor the concierge ever heard of such a law. IS this a State law in New Hampshire?

I can't speak with any authority on New Hampshire State Law but what this person did defies an any and all logic. Now there is a chance that he could have mistook company policy for state law.
(and even if it is company policy for hotel employees it probably doesn't apply to subcontracted entertainment).

If that's the case then it sounds like the guy is on a power trip because he is a new manager.

State laws banning on-the-job alcohol consumption are typically reserved for workers whose sobriety is essential for the safety of others (eg bus driver, transit workers, heavy machinery operators etc.)

Sorry I couldn't provide you with exact details but the idea of such a thing shocked me to the point that I had to throw in my 2 cents and let you know that what happened to you seems bizarre.

I wouldn't make a stink about it because you don't want the hotel to complain to your booking boss/band manager and potentially lose the gig.

Good luck.
