especially if you had done so much intense planning, and knew that that was the most heavily fortified side of the building, and all the top officials' offices are on the opposite side?

Because you're an idiot whose gotten rudimentary training and can barely steer the giant, let alone do acrobatic skills like divebombing.

Planning is one thing, doing is another. They only knew the basics of flying and only in small prop planes, not jumbo jets.

Secondly, they were not trained in dive bombing.

Thirdly, although it is the largest office building in the world, from the air all buildings look tiny and like another poster mentioned, it's a pentagon which makes it difficult to tell direction. They probably didn't know the Pentagon was being refurbished and reenforced.

Fourth, the Pentagon is organized by "rings" or increasingly secure hallways as you get closer to the center. I believe the most senior people are in the innermost, or A-ring.

Finally, for all weapons, the idea is usually to aim "center mass", which increases the chance of hitting the target if you are off a little. The problem with doing this while trying to dive bomb the Pentagon is that the very center is a large courtyard.

From the sky, it would be difficult to tell which is which because the Pentagon is an eight sided structure, each side the same as the next. There is no top, as in a tall office building, this is the largest building in the world and vastly spread out. The pilots who flew those airplanes were by no means ace pilots, and who knows, the passengers may have distracted them from hitting the area they had hoped to strike.

they may well have wanted to, they were not experts at flying, only trained of the basics. So it is a commom result to fly low, because you are using line of sight and not comming in with landing lights. As they came in, they would have been losing control more nad more, so as soon as they saw they were low, they would have pulled up, which most likely caused the plane to stall worst.

That is assumeing they wanted to hit higher up but you can't come straight down, so a glancing blow on the top may also hae missed.

I think we should be thankful the plane crashed where it did and not at a more vulnerable area. What sustains me when I think of 911 is that dying that way had to be relatively quick.

Imminent martyrdom and clear, rational thought generally don't operate together. Rarely seen in the same fanatical group, let alone the same head.

I understand this question if you're purely skeptical, but otherwise this is in no way an appropriate question. Seriously. There is no right way to crash into a building.

it is hard to dive bomb a jumbo jet. and you know or a fact that you will do damage if you fly into it.
