A friend has cancer and is in Marion, AR. She has been referred to the Anderson Cancer Clinic in Orlando, FL but has no money or other way to get there. Can you tell me how to get her some help. She has her 3 year old daughter with her and a plane ticket for them is $650. Amtrack is higher and a bus is over 20 hours and I don't think with the daughter she dcould handle that long of a trip.

Angleflight of America is nationwide and offers free airflight for patients traveling to medical centers for treatment. You can check their website for the correct Regional chapter:

Here is a list of all medical relief flights in the Angelflight does not work out. There are also some places that offer 'ground angel' transportation to hospitals. Check the directory below for more information.

Also, once she is there she can check with the hospitals social workers about nearby lodging that is offered free or at reduced rates. Here is a directory with links to national hospital hospitality houses. Check locations:

Contact as many agencies as possible. Here are some you may have in your area: Salvation Army, United Way, YMCA, YWCA, Hospice, VFW, American Legion, City Hall, and area Townships. Some of these places have money each year to give out in grants. Also, contact local businesses and ask for donations. It can be a tax right off for them. You could also ask businesses to set up collection cans. Just make sure they can keep the money safe and that they know who to give the money to. You could also call radio stations and ask them to hold a pledge drive for you. Also think about a fundraiser, craft or bake sale. Good luck and God bless!
