actually i go to an all girls school and you actually have many more educational oppurtunities at single sex schools but i only advise it for high school anything longer and it can mess up a child's development and sense of reality. also when ppl think of a girls only high school they automatically think that these girls get no interaction with guys but thats not true there are all types of events where girls and guys schools meet and its not like we live at school we do know ppl outside and we do go out on the weekends. maybe we are a little sheltered but it helps us concentrate and not have to focus on so much relationship drama

I think I understand what you're saying, though it's worded a little confusing. I've heard recently on the radio about some school district that is reinstituting single-gender classes (boys and girls in different classrooms). One of the reasons is to try to combat the way that teachers have been found to call on boys more frequently than girls. I've also heard about trying to teach boys and girls differently - having girls sit quietly and pay attention to a lecture vs. having boys learn interactively, based on the idea that girls are more calm/quiet and learn by listening/watching but boys are more energetic and need to be physically active to learn. And I kind of think that's mostly bull - I think tests show girls and boys to be that way because by the time they get to the age where they're being tested, they've been *taught* to be that way. I'm female and I'd rather be taught in an interactive environment than in a lecture hall. I learn better when I can put my hands on something that when I just have to hear or see it and remember it. That said, I do think there are some reasons why I could appreciate single-gender classes. For one thing, especially in junior high/high school, it might decrease the distraction of all the boy/girl interactions, crushes, etc - though if the entire school wasn't single-gender, it'd still exist in the halls and such. But kids of either gender might be more inclined to speak up, being a little less afraid of someone they 'like' thinking their question is stupid.

Thats silly... What kind of social devolpment is being displayed here? Play with your own kind? Then when these kids meet in the real world, they will have no idea how to interact! Its a bad idea! Everyone is entitled to a free and equal education! But that doesn't make sense.
I am getting my degree in secondary ed and this is not right!

Seems like there would be less "distractions" as far as scoping out the opposite sex is concerned and perhaps that would make a better classroom with each sex separate. Girls do learn differently than boys and they'd be less self-conscious and more confident among other girls & probably learn easier. Same would be for the guys and it might well bring up grades with their need for competition as it is.
