the estimated time it took to download something, it is calculated based on your connection

The time it takes to take a file off the Internet and put it on your computer; called downloading.

On a broadband connection this is a pretty short time for most files. The problem is that with a dial-up connection then the time to download a file takes longer. Longer files take more time to download as well.

Many companies use an archive utility like PKZip to compress a large file or a collection of files so it will take less time to download the files.

The time it takes to transfer a file or program electronically. For example you want to get the updated Adobe Reader program. You click on the link to get that update. Now the Adobe server begins to transfer the update to your computer. The time it takes to transfer that update is called download time. The download is considered complete when the setup executable file appears in your computer. You don't have the program installed until you click on the setup.exe icon, but the installation of that program is not part of the download time. Download is strictly the time it takes to transfer the setup.exe file to your computer.

How long it will take your computer to get the information - picture or music etc. from the site your are wanting it from to your computer.
Depending on what connection you have ... dial up - braodband -T1
How you connect to the internet depends on how long the download time will be as well. There are programs that help speed up that time for you no matter what your connection is. A lot of the programs are free. Try Downloads.com or zdnet and search for web accelators.
Good Luck ;-)

It is the time it takes to download a program from the net. It is very slow if you have dial up internet service. If you have DSL or cable it will be alot faster. Where it might take you one hour on dialup it would take maybe 5 minutes on DSL to finish from start to finish.
