The first thing that comes to most is "vicious" because of the way they are portrayed in films and on television. If you've ever owned one, you see a very gentle, intelligent dog, always anxious to please. Dogs of any breed are not vicious by nature, they have to be abused or trained to become that way.

A Doberman Pinscher to my mind thinks of this wonderful dog, that the Marines used during the war. At that time, they were called " The Marine Corp Devil Dog " This breed was a valuable companion during the war in Germany. They come from Germany and the United States trained these dogs to sniff out , attack and much more. We have a beautiful red Doberman, and he is elligant. His name is Harley the Magnificent. He is so muscular and intelligent. Very obediant. They are so smart and very dedicated to their masters. I Love Harley and the Doberman Pinschers.

I associate sleek, intelligent, powerful, and bold with the Doberman breed. Those who fear the Doberman are either uneducated regarding the breed or have had a bad experience with the breed (which tends to be reflective of their personality and/or dog rearing abilities!).

Beauty, intelligence, loyalty, protection and how much I would love to have one donated to me so I could have it trained to be a service dog for me because I am disabled. I have never owned a Doberman but did take care of one for several months & he didn't want to go back to his original owner when the time came. His owner didn't care about him but wouldn't sell him to me for less than $1,000!!

I'm always reminded of a gorgeous, funny 11 month old dobie female who was in a handling class I was teaching. For whatever reason this girl really liked me, and when she saw me, she forgot every bit of training she had and would come running, dragging her owner with her. She was the most awesome dog!! (She did get properly trained eventually, but had a lot of fun in the meantime.)

Von Wilebrand's disease (heritable and very likely in Doberman's)-blood clotting disorder...also heart problems congenital very common...that is what comes to my mind medically...personally like the breed though

BIG! prone to ailments, gentle, have to have a consistent owner. I had heard the really large dogs are prone to shorter life spans, but I don't know for myself.

same thing about rottwilers. un trained dogs ruin it for the rest of them. :(

Dobermins... beautiful dogs I will say that. I'm sure someone will make the coment of them being devil dogs or something of that nature. I've never met one but hear they are loyal and gentle.

i think they're good dogs that just got a bad rep because of cruel people, just like a lot of the other breeds such as rotts and pitbulls.
