Probably because they decline to be harassed. Your idea of ridiculous and someone else's may not be the same thing. That doesn't give you the right to drag them into a debate. . .the "thumbs-down" is where you get to express your opinion.
And there are enough nut-jobs on this website to make anyone have second thoughts about an open email policy. Would you want someone spamming up your inbox just because they didn't happen to like an answer you gave?
I keep my email open here because there have been times when someone has needed more infomation or help than I can give in a single post. But there have also been times when I've regretted that decision.

the human beings who attempt this, do it for various motives. a number of the emails they get might want to be from some someone who did not like their answer to a question. i'm getting a number of those, and locate them exciting. possibly the ultimate digital mail they were given became from an irate nutcase. Others have perspectives, ask, or answer questions in confrontational techniques-- designed to rile the final consumers the following. They too, have in all likelihood gotten some strongly worded emails each and every so typically. different in basic terms do it so as that they don't ought to respond to emails, or to save an digital mail address inner most.

I agree it is cowardice. I try to give sensible, thoughtful answers. Unfortunately sometimes they get taken the wrong way and I really get blasted and I have to shut my email down for a while. But, in general I like to receive mail from fellow yahoo answerers. You have a good point.

Do you really think they would care to hear from you?Obviously they do not want to give you a good answer,or rebut it.This is a way to kill boredom for most of us.I would never use this sight to make any life altering decisions.

You have the chance to comment on questions and chosen answers. It is built into Answers.
No, you can't send me a personal email about this...
I'm not a coward. I just don't have the time or patience to read replies from people who want to disagree with me. If you answer political questions, there are going to be people that argue with you no matter what opinion you express. The facts could be well published and plain as day, there would still be people who want to argue who would abuse knowledge of my email address.

If you think the answers are ridiculous then why bother with them anymore ? If you have asked the stupid question, then you deserve answers that are similar. So why debate that ? To call them a coward is not the right thing to do. Probably they are smarter then you think. This is an answer and question site. Not an e-mail option.

Its a privacy issue, Apparently they don't want IM or emails from morons who think that they have the right to invade someones privacy when they disagree with something they said in a public forum. How would you like to post your home adress so I can come to your place and berate you when you post something I don't agree with?

You can edit and add to your answers or go to a forum for further discussions. Posting an address is a way to open yourself up to spammers, viruses and trojans. Not a good idea.

Ridiculous answers are made because people like to laugh. Some don't like being abused for being funny. Me - I don't care. You can e-mail me about my silly answers if you *really* want to.
