She's a Jack Russell terrier who is well-behaved otherwise. She rarely tries humping my husband or other animals or toys, but she grabs my arm between her paws and humps air. I'm wondering what I can do to discourage this behavior besides just telling her "no" and disengaging. Any help?

The vet told me it isn't a sexual thing, more like they are trying to assert dominance, or play. My mutt (all 70lbs of her) used to do that. We got a cheap little water gun and every time she tried to hump someone, we squirted her with water. Solved the problem pretty quick!

She is doing it for dominance. You need to assert yourself, and show her that you are the leader.
When she does this, put her on the floor, on her back. Look her in the eyes and make a low growling noise. It's called an "alpha roll" and dogs do it naturally in the wild. Showing their belly means they are being submissive.

She is trying to show you that she is the dominant one. You just have to stop her as soon as you know she is about to do it. She just wants to be boss. My female Pug tries it too... all the time actually, I just tell her NO as soon as she starts it. Precious has been doing it for a year now.

i agree with everyone else. shes just trying to be dominant. my dog did the same thing until she was corrected every time she did it. now she stopped. just be more dominant over them. lol that doesnt mean to hump them tho.

She is trying to be the alpa over you,

you need to show her your the boss,
one way is to force her on to her back and stare in to her eyes till she refuse to look back. do this everytime she tries to grab your arm and it will eventually stop.
