You should probably put the puppy in a crate and bring it near the cats, so the cats know it can do no harm. Once in awhile, supervised, let the pup out to associate with the cats. Leave a closet space open just a tad so if the cat needs to run away, they can most defintely run there without worry the puppy will be able to fit through the wholes and catch them. Of, you can probably do it vice- versa and put the cats in some crates and bring the pup around, but the first way is the way to do it. Good Luck!

We had the same problem when my wife's parents came to visit from California for 3 weeks. Our two cats who were normally very social with my wife and I stayed downstairs away from everyone for quite a long time. It was sad. But we would bring the cats upstairs and just sit with them in our laps for a while to try to get them use to the company but they still wanted to be downstairs. But as time went on, they gradually got use to the company and became social again. I think you just have to give them time to realize that the new pup is going to be a normal family member and they will gradually return to normal. It's hard as a cat owner to get through this period. But I think it will get better. Good luck! Glad you take good care of our animal friends!

They are contemplating how to torture the new puppy. They see the pup as an out sider that is taking away some of their attention. Pay some extra attention to your cats [they were there first]. And slowly introduce them to each other. Go slow - don't push it - take your time. Good luck!!!!

It will last forever if you don't stop it now. Remember the cats were there first...this puppy has come into there home. you need to kennel the puppy and let the cats get use to it that way. Get them out of the basement and don't let them back down there.

That happened with me.My "queen of the house" cat stayed isolated in the back rooms of the house when we got our pup. It took her a really long time.It depends on the cats attitude!

about three days, if not then try to introduce the gently into the new situation. If the puppy is too aggressive the cats may not want to be near him, cats are highly sensitive. But cats are pretty resilient and can adjust quite nicely to new situations.

They will likely wait until the pup is big enough to defend itself and then they will show him or her who is really boss around there, until that phase hits, count your blessings. Often a dog will do the same until the kitten is big enough to compete for power, especially if disseplined similarly before with another pet or even a child. (spell checker isn't working, sorry I type so badly.)

it's best if you leave them all alone and let them work it out on their own terms and on their on schedule
