First off, a tattoo is a personal choice and a permenent one. I've got two so far and love them but I didn't let anyone make up my mind about what they were and where they were. You shouldn't either or else you may regret it later on. On getting it on your lower back though, I do have one question. Are you sure you want a sIut stamp? I mean if you do, that's cool but I'd think about it first.

Cross on the shoulder blade and a butterfly with a mystic combination on the lower back. Like sitting on a leaf with mystical surroundings. or spread out with a tribal. like the butterfly in the middle with the tribal symbol going from center to each direction about 6 inches. You mean the area where the belt loop goes right. Think of a Fairy there and save the butterfly for the boob, ankle or toe.

I have a Celtic double trinity knot on my left shoulder blade. Easy to cover if you need to, nice smooth skin for the tattoo to really show nice no matter how much weight you gain over the years, and fairly little pain. The design is all up to you, sister. If you get a cross, and you change your faith in the future (it happens), you're stuck. Butterflies are pretty, but do you want a particular species (monarch, tiger swallowtail), or some sort of fanciful artist's rendering? Which artist's image? Or do you want an original by your tattoo specialist?
Don't just wake up one day and go, "Oh! I think I want a butterfly on my butt!" It should represent something...

A large, stylized butterfly in the middle of the upper back (between the shoulder blades).
This will accentuate the sexy lines and curves of a woman's back, and be somewhat more original than the shoulder blade or lower back that is so common nowadays.
Plus, it's easier to conceal when you want. It won't show unless you wear something backless, making it even more sexy.

Tattooing has been banned in some states for health and safety reasons. Unsterile tattooing equipment can transmit infections, including hepatitis B, hepatitis C and even HIV. The risk is so significant that the American Association of Blood Banks requires a one-year wait between getting a tattoo and donating blood.

Q: What signs of infection should someone who has been tattooed watch for?
A: Increased pain, tenderness, swelling, heat around the tattoo site, red streaks, pus, swollen lymph nodes - all of these are signs that you need to see a doctor for antibiotics.

Q: What other risks are involved?
A: You could get granulomas, little nodules that can form around the tattoo, or keloid scar formation. Some people are prone to developing these keloid scars, which grow beyond the boundary of the tattoo. Granulomas and keloids are permanent unless you have them surgically removed.

Also, allergic reactions, although rare, can happen.

No word of a lie, I just got back from getting my very first tattoo!!!
I had a variety of flowers put around my wrist, each with a special meaning. It needs to meaningful because it is permanent. And God's honest truth...I laughed when he started because I was worried about a great deal of pain! The inside of my wrist was tender because there really is no fat there, just a lot of nerve endings, but completely tolerable. My personal choice would be butterfly because I'm not religious and the colour possibilities on a butterfly are limitless!

Choose something carefully and thoughtfully. And I'm sure you'll love it. Either location should be fine. I chose my wrist because I wanted to be able to see it easily! I'm already thinking about how to add on to this one once it heals.

Good luck!

pain wise your shoulder blade is a little more painfull, unless your lower back will go a bit onto your lower spine. but to choose a tattoo you really need to think about which best suits you. its permanent and when people see a tattoo they wont to know about it, you dont wont your answer to be everyone else said it would look good. do either mean anything to you?

getting a cross that isn't symbolic for anything (espcially if you are not regilous) is semi-tacky. I think a butterfly would look great but where you put is depends on whether or not you ever plan on having kids. Once you get preg. th skin on your back will stretch out and the tattoo will not look good at all.

I personally think that a butterfly on the shoulder would look nice. I myself have one on my shoulder of a heart with rays coming out of it( its like a sun but a heart instead).
