My guess is darn few. The letter in question has been translated into English and is reproduced below.Dear ----------,
You are receiving this letter because you have recently registered to vote. If you are a U.S. Citizen, I urge you to participate in the democratic process of voting.
Be advised that if your residence in the United States is illegal or if you are an emigrant, voting in a federal election is a crime that can result in incarceration, and possible deportation for voting without the right to do so.
In the same way, be advised that the U.S. government is installing a new computerized system to verify names of all the newly registered voters who participate in the elections in October and November. Organizations against immigration will be able to request information from this new computerized system.
Not like in Mexico, here there is no benefit to voting. In the United States there is no registration card to vote. Therefore, it is useless and dangerous to vote in any election if you are not a citizen of the United States.
Do not pay attention to a politician who may try to tell you otherwise. They only care about their own interests. They just want to win elections and it doesn't matter to them what happens to you.
Sincerely, Sergio Ramirez

After reviewing the letter itself, it is clear that Nguyen's staff is simply reminding citizens to vote and non-citizens not to vote. What is wrong with that, for heaven's sake?

It wouldn't offend me,how can the truth be considered racists? I think it was in Spanish right? If it had been addressed to an American sounding name and in English ,I would have said OK cool and thrown it away.
I cant see anything wrong with telling people the truth. Some politicians had been lying and telling illegals that they could vote, this guy set them straight.

Well, naturalized citizens can vote. So it depends on what the Spanish word for immigrant meant. We are told it meant 'resident' from somewhere else, as in, not a citizen. I haven't enough Spanish to verify that.
I think it will be interesting to see who wins. No one had heard of him, before this.

Considering how I live in Garden Grove (where the letters circulated) I'd have to say that it wasn't so much the letter itself but the fact that he didn't just send it to all immigrants. Keep in mind that he only mentions Mexican immigrants not the Vietnamese population (which also huge here), the Korean population, Middle Eastern or Indian (India, not Native) populations of which there are in vast numbers here. His wording was so specific to only one class that it's hard to not notice that he's been deliberate in his words. I give him some credit, he's got quite a pair in order to continue the race. I can only sit it out and wait and see what happens. As to the letter itself, my sister and I had a huge laugh about it along the lines of, "Hey, I want to be singled out too, where's my letter?"

properly, naturalized citizens can vote. So that's desperate via what the Spanish word for immigrant meant. we are recommended it meant 'resident' from someplace else, as in, now no longer a citizen. I certainly have not adequate Spanish to verify that. I evaluate it extremely is going to be pleasing to look who wins. no person had heard of him, previously than this.

If you are an immigrant, and you are a citizen, you can vote as well, I read the letter, and that stupid goock was trying to intimidate citizens based on their national origin, clearly a hate crime.
