I wouldn't say vindication is the main reason; it's just one of them. He has other considerations. One, as in the news today, the 'insurgents ' are threatening to destroy the oil facilities that are guarded by by civilians, that we pay. The oil profits , however don't go to Iraq,
Among private firms, Halliburton , Kellogg, Brown & Root, can rake in the bucks while we stay in Iraq. These corporate buddies of the Administration are higher on Bush's agenda than his churlish vendetta.
"The Iraq reconstruction audits have routinely found significant problems with contracting and rebuilding in the country, ranging from high costs for security and overhead to alleged fraud and lack of oversight.
Sen. Byron Dorgan (news, bio, voting record) of North Dakota, chairman of the Democratic Policy Committee, said that in 13 oversight hearings on the war in Iraq the committee found more than $1 billion in waste, fraud, abuse and what it called "shoddy work" by contractors.
"I'm convinced that this is the most significant waste, fraud and abuse in the history of this country," Dorgan said.
If the Democrats take control of the Senate, he said, they will launch oversight hearings on war matters ranging from faulty intelligence leading up to the war to wrongdoing by contractors."

If vindicating prior decisions were the only consideration, it would not be a reasonable basis for continuing the effort in Iraq. But that is not the case, so this isn't a case of vindicating Bush vs. soldier's lives. It's more complicated than that, and it is a disservice to our nation to try to cast it in such simple-minded terms.

I am in the military. I'm sure I speak for my fellow service men and women when I say that I don't care what people think about the President, or where we are. The fact of the matter is we go where we are told, we really have no say. The important thing is that people back home support us. You don't have to like President Bush to love America, but you should support us.

Now, if we were to leave Iraq, just pick up and walk away, what do you think would happen next. Seriously..
I think we would have other countries down our throats, as in the past. More of our own people would be behaving worse than some of you are now - no offense.
We should ask those that have returned, from their tour of duty, what they think, how they feel.
We hear what the media wants us to hear, period. It is like that with everything.
I will respect the words of those that served, period.

It's not vindicating Bush, but rather fulfilling an obligation to the Iraqi people to try to keep them safe from the insurgents that kill them on a daily basis. We got into this, we need to stay in until the job is done. If we don't, it'll be another Vietnam situation. The surrounding countries will invade and the insurgents will kill civilians who supported us.

The troops lives are VERY important!! Don't you think just pulling out now would be worse?? What did they die for?? I think some people should watch the 911 tape or the movie Pear Harbor; then afterwards, don't keep asking why we're there!

apparantly, that's how it works. Just like them holding off on recent recommendations in Iraq til after the elections. They don't want it to affect the election. I think that's B.S.!! If there's something we need to do in Iraq, we should do it now! Not wait for three weeks so the Reps have a better chance in their piece of SH## elections!!

I'm no fan of the war or of Bush, but to up and leave would be horrendous: like it or not your country, and Britain, now have an obligation to Iraqi people, at least in the medium term.

We are not there to vindicate his policy. Troops are going to die in war. That is a fact that will never change. If a military service member claims he did not know that going in, he is either lying or an idiot.
