Depends on what you did when you were alive...

Ezekial 18:4: "The soul that is sinning-it itself will die." Soul in Hebrew is ne'phesh. Other translations say "the man" or "the person."
In the Bible, "soul" is translated from the Hebrew ne'phesh and the Greek psykhe'. Bible usage shows the soul to be a person or an animal or the life that a person or an animal enjoys. To many people however, "soul" means the immaterial or spirit part of a human being that survives the death of the physical body. Others understand it to be the principle of life. But these latter views are not Bible teachings.

When I die, my sould will be escorted to the Court of Yama there I will be judged for my actions on earth the good deeds and bad deeds I have done, if the good out weigs the bad I will return to Earth in a new form so my soul can continue on it's quest for Enlightenment. If the bad out weighs the good I will face my punishment. If I die after achieving enlightenment, I will then be given a choice whether to ascend to Yomi or stay on earth in spirit as a Bodhisatva to aid and end all suffering on the earth by teaching the path of enlightenment to all man

I think it all depends on the individual, God gave us free will, if we choose not to believe in after-life perhaps the spirit is snuffed out like a flame.
Depending on how we have lived could be how we die, for me personally I hope God gives us an option to A. relive the happiest times of our lives over and over everyday for eternity. or B. Comeback to earth and try to accomplish something we couldn't in a previous life. If you were inheritnatly bad or malicious I think you are sentenced to an eternity of nothingness , that is being self aware like you are alive but knowing you are in a void and totally alone, no light no sound just nothingness a fate worse than hell.
I believe we are all linked in a spiritual way I believe man has simply lost the ability to utilize that ability but that in death we can utilize that spritual ability to communicate. Its a complicated issue but I believe that death is only a transitional phase.
I had a dream once I rember it clearly, My uncle who had passed away was sitting at my bedside telling me how heaven worked, basically, you build up credit here in life depending on how you use the life you have been given and the way you live your life, in death based on your built up credit through kindness, good deeds, etc is how enjoyable your soul will find heaven, corny maybe, but We all find out eventually don't we?

This question has been asked several times recently, but here is my answer again.

When the body dies, the spirit goes to a spirit world; in paradise for the righteous, and a spirit prison for the unrighteous. There, we wait for the eventual resurrection and then judgment by Christ.

Upon the judgment, we will live in an immortal state of flesh and bone for eternities in one of the many mansions God has provided for us.

I can only imagine and based on my religion I think it depends on how you live your life if you live evil and think bad you will spend eternity the same way. But if you serve others and try to do the right thing you will spend eternity the same way. the golden rule is called that for a reason. Be kind and God Bless.

Addenda to Jewel Flower's good answer:

"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit [erroneously called the 'soul'] shall return unto God who gave it." (Ec 12:7)

Sacred Scripture is very clear about this. After judgment the soul either spends eternity with Christ or damnation with Satan. the choice is yours while your here on earth as to where you end up. Jesus loves you!

I think it doesn't really matter. If you do good things in this world for the sake of eternal paradise, that seems selfish to me. Do good things for the sake of doing good things, no matter if you beleive in God, Christ, Allah, whatever, or no god at all. Do good things because no mater what happens after death, it's death and not life, and can't compare.

Some may go to hell.
Some if negative in life may be stuck on earth as a ghost, since the light to Heaven is positive.

Most may go to Heaven, and when you get there, if your wearing the robe of righteousness, you get to see God, if you arrive in a gown, it means God took compassion and mercy on you, and saved you from hell, therefore what you having learned on earth, you'll have to learn in Heaven, before your able to see God.

We were all a thought of God, God breathe into his thoughts and we were born Spirit, God sent us on our way to be born on earth and become a redeem person...... and when we die, your last breath returns back to God.

The wages of sin is death. Rom 6:33
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom. Ecc 9:10
No-one remembers you when he is dead. Who praises you from his grave? Ps 6,5
It is not the dead who praise the LORD, those who go down to silence..Ps 115,17
