It seems like everytime there is a tornado or something catastrophic happens, the people that have been affected talk about how blessed they are that only 1 of their kids died, and they lost there house, but wow the lord is good, and they are so blessed.
Forgive me for being cynical, but I think that I would not feel blessed. I would probably question my faith, and wonder what kind of god would allow such horrible things to happen.

I would question my faith too.

And how unbelievably arrogant of those people, to think that THEY somehow deserved God's mercy more than the unfortunate victims of unrelenting nature.

Because they are blessed. They may have only lost one child but they might have four more. There are those that do question their faith but if their family is alive and well and all they lost was a house then its a blessing they survived and are all together. If they lost a loved one then its a blessing they knew that person at all and they were blessed to be loved by them. You can make a bad situation worse or you can try to move on by counting your blessings.

We are blessed because we are still alive and breathing. I know the death of a child or loved one is hard to cope with, but death comes sooner or later to everyone and everything. I lost my 25 year old grandson in an accident, but I'm not bitter. It was just his time to die. The Lord tells us, there is a season to live and a season to die. We just have to accpept it.

Tragedies are bound to happen and how we deal with them is the key. You'll either be sweet or bitter about things that you can't control so why not count your blessings and go on with life.

Maybe because they're still able to think at all. Mabye because they lost their house, but their children are fine. The bible never tells us that everything is always gonna be hunky-dory, that no one will ever suffer.

Sometimes we don't appreciate all the blessings we have until some of them are taken away.
