they grow in the wild a few blocks from my house on the hills, but a few blocks down at safeway or any other place, they charge $4 for a small tiny container. Why are they so expensive?

local farmers charge even more, most are organic. Sometimes even $4.99 per small pint if local (San Francisco area, I know everything is more expensive here, but still)

All the berries in the stores where I live are expensive. They're just hard to grow and not real plentiful, they perish easily so we're probably paying the price for all that.

The ones for sale in your supermarket may not be local -- you're best to check the label. Why not try a local farmer's market or farm to see if you can get local blackberries for a better price? I'd bet they taste a lot better if they're local and fresh, too.

I know that in my area blackberries are only in season for a couple short weeks in the summer. They're usually very expensive in the store for us.

Because they know people want them and will pay any price
to get them. That's why i have planted 2 blackberry bushes
in my yard. The first year i only had a few berries, but this year
they produced so many i made jams and canned the rest. Now
i have blackberries all year long. YUM YUM

They are rich in vitamin C, and out here in the west they are very hard to grow. I have found in life that anything that is good for you, cost a lot. If you can only go a few blocks to pick them. I would hurry.

Blackberries are a pain in the butt to pick (lots of sticky thorns) So I assume people would just rather PAY than get all scratched up. I prefer to pick my own and they are always abundant around here (Indiana)
