Go to a vet and ask them for Capstar. It is a pill that will start working in 30 mins and lasts for 24 hours. It will get rid of all fleas that are on your cat. You will want to put your cat some where where they can fall off because they will as they start to die. You can also get Frontline while you are there and that will keep you cat flea free for a month. To make sure that you get the fleas out of your house, you can also get a can of stuff called Knock Out while you are at the vet. One can should do your whole house and you can put it on anything besides yourself, other people, and animals. Make sure that you vaccumme before you spray it and that you spray the rollers to your vaccumme afterwards. The directions will be on the can.

You are having the same problem I am having right now. One of my cats gets outdoors any time he can and I think the last time he got out he picked up some extra unwanted cargo!
I ordered some Frontline Plus over the internet cause it was way way way cheaper than my vet...22.99 per 3 pack as opposed to 45.00...yikes!
Also I plan to use foggers after I treat them...I will take us all...me and the four cats, next door to my mom's house one afternoon while I treat the house. That is the only way I know of to get rid of the fleas in the house. I could bathe them also but I do not want to get scratched all up...and they would do it too..
However if you can bathe your cat I think that you could wash his face with a wash cloth and maybe even run some water over his face for a second. There are also some good flea shampoos for cats on the market too. Good luck to us both!

Get a flea comb and comb your cat every day. Keep a bowl of water nearby and dunk the comb in the water each time you run it through your cat's fur. (This will drown the fleas.) Invest in some Advantage. It's very useful in getting rid of fleas and keeping them gone. There's a website where you can order it for a very good price, even considering the shipping amount. I'm including the address below. (The prices are in Australian dollars, so I'm also giving you the link to a currency converter if you decide to go this route.)
If you have carpets, vaccuum them daily. Wash the bedsheets and any other linens twice a week and use a vaccuum cleaner on any upholstery. If the flea problem in your house is very severe, you may need to get a flea bomb.

Bath him with only mild shampoo, flea shampoos bought at the market are not effective but toxic to the animal. Tomorrow or tonight even visit your licensed veterinarian where he/she can give your cat a pill which will immediately kill the adult fleas if the infestation warrants it. They can also sell you topical flea products such as Advantage (fleas only), Frontline (fleas and ticks), Revolution (fleas, ticks, mites, heartworms). All of these have been proven to get rid of your flea problem, pets kept indoor should be on flea prevention for the very reason your cat has fleas because if they accidentally escape they can be severely hindered by the infestation. Fleas in great enough quantities will cause severe anemia (which will cause weakness, lethargy, lack of appetite and death). Your cat will need to be dewormed most likely after this ordeal because fleas harbor other parasites namely tapeworms which your cat acquires when she grooms herself and swallows the flea on her. By the way you can wash your cat's face with a washcloth and you can use two fingers wrapped by the wash cloth to clean her ears. Go to the vet though and get preventions and let your vet look her over for anything else she may have encountered on her adventure. Good luck!

ADVANTAGE.
This is the only brand of flea medication that really works. You can buy it online or at a variety of places from veterinarians to (pardon the pun) flea markets. It isn't cheap - one tube for a cat could cost about $10 - but it is worth every penny because it works, almost immediately starts killing the fleas with just a few drops placed at the back of the cat's neck.
DO NOT waste your money on any of the brands you can buy at supermarkets, like Hartz. They are useless.
Get a tube of Advantage. The sooner, the better. Eating the fleas can cause your pet to get worms - and THOSE are REALLY disgusting.

NEVER use an over-the-counter flea treatment for a cat. I have a friend who did that, trying to save money, and nearly killed the cat - and spent $300 saving it. Those things are deadly...
If you want to give the cat a bath yourself, use a gentle shampoo, and put suds around its neck first and then bathe it below the neck. First put a towel in the basin you're going to bathe the cat in - that way it doesn't feel unsafe. Make sure the water temperature is just warm, too. Make sure you have a soft towel after you've rinsed it gently (again in warm water) so you can wrap it up and hold it gently while it dries.

The only safe way to get rid or fleas is to call your vet and get a flea treatment they sell like revolution or advantage. They not only kill the adults but the eggs and larva as well. It takes 24 hours to kill everything off. then vacuum like crazy and wash all clothing that the cat has come into contact with. Hartz stuff, like flea collars are toxic and kill many pets every year.

there is an over the counter med. called Biospot, it works wonders, i used to have 3 cats and one was always infested, i now work in a petstore and i really think thats the best, its much cheaper than frontline. you just place it on the back of their neck and with in a week it covers the entire body. you can also try palmolive (dishwashing detergent) dont wash your cats face, and dont worry about it unless you see fleas on it, just get the tweezers out. the palmolive will kill the fleas but not the eggs, your best bet is Biospot, its in a pink tube. good luck!

Please be careful about over-the-counter flea medications. My friend gave her cat Hartz Advanced Flea Treatment, and it almost killed the cat. He was siezing, it was awful. You should ask a vet about the fleas. They have a new shot that takes care of fleas, ticks AND worms.
And just so you know, it is very important to get the fleas taken care of ASAP because they carry tapeworm eggs... the worms can make your kitty very sick. Best of luck!

Give him a bath with an over the counter flea shampoo. Once he's dry, put one of the topical treatments on him, don't use the Heartz stuff, use Advantage, Frontline or something like that.
