If they are atheist, why do they care?

They "care" because the possibility that they are accountable to a higher being scares them.

You have a point about them caring but how do you know that those giving the rating are really atheists? From what I am understanding, this forum is for religion and spirituality which doesn't specify having it or not but just answering the questions. Was it really worth using the points to ask?

For the same reason that christians give bad ratings on anything that doesnt sound compliant with the bibles expectations.
tit for tat i guess. if you go to a christian supportive Q, the only answer that doesnt sound an agreement gets ALL the bad ratings.

We don't. We give bad ratings for stupid questions, mostly those that are slanderous or make unmerited generalizations. I guess the second explains the -6 rating I saw on this one.

they don't believe in God so how can they rate something good that they do not believe in or care about? You can't like something if you haven't tried it. they have for the most part not tried God. but on the flip side of the coin, you can't hate it if you haven't tried it either......... this seems to be a lot of bashing Christians and bashing atheists... what about the others? Muslims aren't' exactly nice ALL the time... no religion is... they all think they are right.

I give people a thumbs down for stupid or uneducated answers regardless of their beliefs.
I've gotten thumbs down by Christians or whatever simple for stating facts like parents pass their DNA onto their children.
