if my hair was that long i think i would cut it up to around my chest area before i did anything drastic with length. you can always cut it shorter if after youve cut a few inches off you feel you want it shorter. and if red is the color you want then go for it. i love dying my hair, it always makes me feel sexier and more attractive when i have a new color. good luck.

Once you do, you may not like it. See if there is any wig shop or someplace that sells wigs and try on a wig that is short hair and red. That way you will get an idea ahead of time if you would like your hair like that. Once it is cut off, it will take time to grow that long again, and if you don't like the color red on you, that too will have to either grow out and kept being cut off until your natural color is back. Or dye it another color, but the more you dye your hair, the more it will be damaged.

Kgirl, PLEASE take the advice from 'itsmeagain'. When I saw your question, I was going to give the same advice about trying a red wig first and see how you'd like but I saw someone already suggested it. You'll have nothing to lose by trying the wig. Cutting off all that hair may be something you'll regret.. In the end, of course, it's your choice. I'm sure you'll look nice whatever you do. Good luck and take care.

I would not suggest such a dramatic color and length change. I went from having waist length brown hair to a short platinum bob. I hated the color and the length. I looked washed out, older, and fat; and I am underweaight. When you cut your hair short, you automatically look heavier.
FYI: according to my colorist at Vidal Sassoon, red is the most difficult color to keep up. It either looks brassy or fades quickly.

If you're happy with it, leave it alone. After you dye your hair red and cut it short, if you're trying to escape from brown waist length hair, will you be happy? Think before you do it please.

is your hair straight or curly? managable? what is your lifestyle? do you need something low maintainance? talk to your stylist and look at different options. if you see a style you like in a magazine - take it with you. I went from short to long, then back to short and I love it! as for the red you could try something that will fade over a few washings to see if you like it - you also don't want roots as it grows out. good luck!

If you're even thinking about a hair cut, would you consider donating your beautiful brown hair to Locks of Love? They make wigs, etc. for those who've lost their hair , usually for health reasons. I think it's mostly for children. When you get it cut, your stylist will help you decide a nice cut and/or color. Oh yeah, I love red !!!

Are you going for a dramatic affect? If you are then i would at least cut it, but dying it red?? Brown or Blonde hair is much better and trust me you'll get TONS of attention for it!!!

if u like short hair go for it, i would recommend getting it cut about 5 in, layer it and add red highlights if u want because changing it that drastically may make you really upset/desperate after wards since u r not that used to it. and u may miss it

Keep it long, and or check out different hair styles that match your style. Long locks are beautiful when layered. Coloring can damage your hair in the long run.
