Winter is the most expensive time to fly to Asia. From November through January many people head to Asia because the weather is nice and it is easier to get time off around the holidays.
London is filled with little travel discount shops. Consider http://www.statravel.com/ for discount student tickets. You will need to be flexible in terms of airline quality, dates, etc. Don't miss your flight because a deeply discounted ticket is often worthless once the flight has departed.

Hope my info and experience can help --- the cheapest month to fly to Asia is October. Hurry and you might just be in time. October in Hong Kong, Philippines and Vietnam is horrendously hot and therfore Europeans give them a miss during that time. So time of the year is an important factor.
