You know that squiggly little self portriat JL did of himself, well I have that tattooed on my back with the word "Imagine" underneath.
That's what I think of it.

Musically, it's a snoozefest. Lyrically, an ancient '60s New World Order caroll whose time is past.

I think it was written by a man who was lacking spirituality. It is a humanistic song, denying humans the place they often accord themselves in the spiritual universe. Instead it relegates them to their material and exquisitely beautiful home of Earth. Lennon urges his fellow men and women to unite in creating a world fit to live upon, one without countries, war, religion, or private property.

Overly idealistic and romantic. He probably wrote it when he was tripping.

Great music. Silly, utopian lyrics.
