A man lives on the 20th floor of an apartment building. If it is a rainy day, he gets into the elevator in the morning, goes down to the ground floor and goes to work. When he comes home in the afternoon, he gets in the elevator and goes straight to the 20th floor. However, if it is a sunny day he goes down to the ground floor in the morning, on the elevator, but when he comes home, he uses the elevator to get to the 10th floor, then climbs ten flights of stairs. Why does he do this?

Half the sun has passed on any given day, hence the use of elevator to the 20th floor;
On a sunny day, he would only be required to move half the distance on elevator when coming back as the sun had already been ipso facto, as it were.

Because when it's raining, his shoes are wet & soggy when he gets to his building after work, so he takes the elevator all the way to the his floor.
On sunny days, he takes advantage of dry shoes & enjoys the excersize of working up a sweat on a 10 floor climb!
Or maybe he's superstitious or a dork.

He's short, and uses the end of the umbrella to poke "20" which would be out of reach when he doesn't have his umbrella. "10" is the highest number he can reach without his umbrella.

He is vertically challenged and can not reach past the tenth button. When it rains, he has his umbrella to press the twentieth button.
