It depends on your climate. Some dogs do not like being alone so do some research before deciding on a breed.

Don't listen to all the people telling you it is cruel to have an outside dog, they probably have never left the city and are PeTA members. Make sure he has a good, warm place to sleep and attention every day and it is fine. All my dogs live in my house but everyone has different ideas on how to keep their animals.

No dog should be an outside dog. They are social/pack animals. Getting a dog just to spend all of it's time outdoors is cruel.

Doing so will not give you a loving, loyal companion, but bring about a "nuisance" that animal control will be called on because of the escapes, barking, neglect, etc.

Out of boredom the dog may chew things up, including the house, dig, jump over or dig under the fence to escape. Not to mention bark until everyone around goes crazy.

Why do you want a dog if you want an outside dog? Trust me...the dog won't be happy.

A ceramic statue of a dog. Its fairly cruel to leave a dog outside in the elements. Even if he has a house to go into it usually offers little protection. Dogs need a great deal of love and attention. Leaving the dog outside limits the amount of time the family actually spends with him.

None. People have turned dogs into companion animals and as such, they need companionship. What's the point of having a dog who's not part of the family? How can anyone in the family develop any kind of relationship with a dog that's confined to a yard by himself? A dog that's segregated to the back yard is never going to develop into any kind of intelligent, happy companion. Make some dog happy, and don't get one.

It depends on what kind of climate you live in, though dogs should be a member of the family, not kept outdoors. Whats the point of getting a dog if it's outside all the time?

If you are going to keep the dog outside, I would humbly suggest not getting a dog. Dogs need more attention than just chaining them outside.

Buy a beanie baby or something and toss it outside. Dogs shouldn't be outside all the time. They need their people.

If space indoors is an issue, then get a small/medium dog or don't get one at all.

There's no such thing as a good outside dog. It should be inside and part of your family. Dont get one if you are going to leave it outside.

Sorry to disapoint you, but dogs need to be kept inside. If they dont, i will bet you he will find a way to get out and find another, a lot better family to live with who will care for him.

So if you want something to be outside, then dont even bother getting any kind of animal unless it is a raccoon
