id like to add to the family values question posted a little while ago.

were not talking about family values asa general term, were talking about Christian Family Values. thats what the definition really is.

i think this whole "family values" thing is an attempt to generalize something thats in fact is specific to a certain people.

christians.

so heres the question...to christians...what exactly is "family values" can you describe what these values entail? can you clairify them?

to hear it from Republican Christians it is only they that have morals and value their family. anyone not waving a flag with the logo of Jesus riding a star spangled elephant is a godless heathen who steals from their grandparents and eats little babies for dinner on Fridays.

I didnt see the original family values question. But, I have read your question. When we Christians talk about family values, of course we mean the values as God states them. But, even if you arent Christian, these values should still apply to all of mankind. We should love each other, be kind and gentile, showing we need and value everyone in the family. We should give only respect, and receive only respect. Each person should know who they are in that family and how each is as valuable as the other one. THere should always be unconditional love, honor, respect. Now, as Christians, this is a command to us, and if we are followers of God, we will do those thing. Not all claiming to be Christians do that, they just call themselves Christians. Being a Christian means you are following after Jesus Christ and desire to live as He lived, and be obedient to God. As a non believer, it would still be nice if everyone lived this way, what a world it would be. But, so few non believers will, because they only want to follow their own selfish desires. God tells us to rid ourself of selfishness and have only what He desires for us. Can you imagine what a world we would live in if everyone lived this way, respecting and honoring each other. Also, God tells us that we each have roles, and few non belivers want to get in it, and many Christians wont because they dont truly understand it. For example, the man is the head of the family, and the wife is to submit to him. Many use that to bash around their wife and their kids, who are to submit to both mom and dad. Yet, lets go back to what family CHristian values are. God wouldnt want any form of abuse or hurt. So, the man that is truly Christian knows he must honor and respect his wife and kids, and them submitting to him doesnt mean he is some huge boss and can run everyone. But, there are final decisions to be made to keep the family together, and someone has to have a final say. If a man wants to move for a new job, and the wife refuses to go, theres divorce... But, a christian wife knows her job is to follow her husband. so she goes. When you understand the mind and will of God, it all becomes so clear. The wife is to submit to her husband, as they both are to submit to God. God is never bossy and cruel. He gives freedom of choice, and doesnt beat it into anyone. Nor should a husband. There are so many examples of how this works, no way to list them all. So I touched on this one, to see the love of God. Here you have women that would never submit to a husband, but they arent getting true love and respect either. That will only come in full when the man is a Christian, treating you like God says to treat a woman, and then you are glad to let him lead the home. Hope this gives you some idea of how the Christians feel.

As a Catholic, family values are the moral laws/rules that I follow and I instill in my son to follow. Like no drinking, smoking, sex before marriage, no gossiping, calling people names, no mimicking others in rude ways, no hitting, kicking, etc. It the way my parents raised me to be a good person and I believe these are good rules and go with the laws that God set before us and I still follow these rules and teach my son these rules.

Families have different values, morals. Or some go by the "do as I say and not as I do" rule. This does not work because kids mimic their parents. I smoked at 13 because my dad smoked. I was never told that it was bad, just that it was for adults only. I quit eventually but I added to this for my son, teaching him what is inside cigarettes and what all the chemicals do to your body. I wasn't educated on smoking, just told not to do it as a kid. But I "figured" that if it's ok for my dad, it's ok for me. Same as drinking. I don't drink and I teach my son about alcohol. I just don't say "don't do it" or "wait until you're old enough". Kids will not listen to that. Family values have to come with full education as to why we do or don't do things and the consequences and rewards of our words and actions.

Respect for a family way of life. Teach your children right from wrong.Teach them the ten commandments Do not lie, cheat, steal, etc. Let's go little further, be kind to one another. Be sharing, caring, love one another. Don't be slanderous, don't belittle someone . else because he's different. Your speech is to be pleasant not vile or vulgar. You're to have a good integrity. It's a shame that parent's don't teach their children this at home.

family values don't just apply to christians. any parent who loves their children will want their children to have respect, and the best way to do this is by showing respect. they will want their children to not be the kind of person who ends up in jail, or hooked on drugs, or dead. family values just means the values a person needs in order to live in society well, and that's something that goes beyond christians or any faith. it's just common sense.

Family values boils down to biblical values. Many lessens that we teach our children will be based on lessens that were learned in the bible
