As people have pointed out it's a nickname for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
myths - oh man, pay attention to this board and you'll see plenty of them.
Let me stress NONE OF THESE ARE TRUE but a few I've heard:
We're all polygamists (nope - polygamists are excommunicated)
We have horns (I'm not kidding - that's been a rumor)
We're all full time missionaries all the time (those guys in suits on bikes - nope that's voluntary and lasts no more than 2 years)
We think the Book of Mormon replaced the Bible (nope, it compliments the Bible).
Well, I think that does it for now.
thanks

Keep in mind, these ARE myths and rumors that are UNTRUE that I have heard:
We practice polygamy currently
We have horns
Our underwear is magical
The temple ordinances are satanic
We can't have sex unless it's to have a kid
We have sex infront of people in the temple
We don't have electricity
The men are abusive to their wives
Women are "nothing" in the church
We all have 10+ children
Those are just a few I could remember that people actually think is true...it's funny because I will tell someone, "no, we don't do or believe that" and they don't believe me, they think I am covering something up! Hello - I'm the Mormon here!!!

A "Mormon" is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Here are some of the rumors and myths I've heard. (none of which are true, by the way)
-Mormons practice polygamy.
-Mormons dress in Amish clothing.
-Mormons teach their children witchcraft.
-Mormons can't drink Coke.
-Mormons don't believe in the Bible.
-Mormons pray to Adam.
and so on....... I am a Mormon and I've heard about so many weird things that people think I believe in. Sometimes it's funny. And sometimes it's disheartening.

Mormon is a colloquial term used to refer to adherents of the Latter Day Saint movement, and most commonly to the movement's original and largest group, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The term is derived from The Book of Mormon, a religious text that Joseph Smith, Jr. said he translated from ancient plates containing a history of the early inhabitants of the Americas that was compiled by a prophet called Mormon. Although many people identify the Latter Day Saint movement as a denomination of Protestantism, Mormons do not consider themselves to be Protestants and do not recognize themselves as part of any larger branch of Christanity, but do consider themselves devout Christians (see Mormon.org ) and believe The Book of Mormon to be "Another Testament of Jesus Christ".

A Mormon is a person who adheres to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
The most well-known myth is that all Mormons are polygamists. The majority of Mormons are not polygamists. The majority of Mormon polygamists belong to the splinter sect Fundamental Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Some people believe that Mormonism is a Christian denomination.
Some people believe that Mormonism is at the extreme end of being Christian.
Some people don't believe that Mormonism is a Christian denomination.
Mormons believe that their church is the corrected truth and way.

A "Mormon" is someone who follows the teachings of the Church of Latter Day Saints, founded by Joseph Smith.
Mormons are known for abstaining from caffeine; going on a mandatory mission while wearing white shirts and dark pants and riding bicycles; trusting in good works for salvation; keeping unbelievers from seeing their holy sanctuary; wearing a holy undergarment; and having private rituals in preparation for marriage.

Google it because honestly, I couldn't tell you. I stay away from that religion. Their beliefs are.... I can't think of a polite way to put it.
