I spread garlic butter on first. then put cheese on then tomatoes and grill it. It's like having garlic bread with topping and it's really tasty.

Here's a variation on the cheese and tomato.
Grate cheddar into a bowl. Add tomato ketchup and stir it into a paste.
Toast on side of the toast. Slightly toast the second side and spread the paler side with the cheese and tomato paste and grill this too.

I leave the butter or marg out cos the cheese does make it oily - but my mum puts it on first before the cheese or tomato - its personal taste really! It doesn't matter - have it how you like it!!!!

I'm afraid I agree with your Mrs. I toast one side, then put the cheese and tomato on the untoasted side and stick it under the grill. No butter or marg needed!

i add the cheese and tomato, grill it,then once cooked, put a little bit of butter on,so that the cheese spreads right into the corners, otherwise i leave my crusts,if they're dry,i'm 26 by the way.

Well, since I do my cheese and tomato sandwiches in a skillet, I do butter thse sides of the bread that are being cooked. it makes it a nice golden brown color and extra yummy. I don't put any on the inside of the sandwich though.

You should have it the way you like it. I know people who do both. I put marge on partly because it helps the cheese stick to the bread!

Add it, the butter or marg gives it extra flavour. the mrs misses it out cos she thinks it is keeping her slim, not the case, activity keeps people slim not te food they eat.
keep that metabolism up and you can eat what you want.

I also do mine on a skillet & instead of butter, I spread mayo lightly on the toasted sides of the bread. the bread comes out real nice with that & not quite as greasy
